Great Location, a bit difficult to find the first time

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 27, 2012
This hotel is a bit "artsy" in its decor, which is fine. It was clean, and relatively inexpensive for being in the middle of Insadong, and near to so many attractions. It is off a but of a side street, and it took me a while to find it, but with help of a friendly local person, who enlisted the help of the police, we were able to find it. It is located in a part of Seoul known for selling musical instruments, and there are lots of shops around, and a variety of food options. It was within walking distance of many of the attractions in Seoul. The subway station is nearby, but is at the junction of three different lines, so the station is massive, but once I found it, I was fine. I took one of the hotel's cards with me each time I went out and gave it to the taxi driver when it came time to go back. Friendly staff, clean rooms, good service. I would stay there again if staying in Seoul.

This hotel is just next to Insadong where many restaurants, boutiques, palaces and old wooden houses are in walking distance. It is near Crown Hotel which is more expensive and not as interesting.
It is very clean, has a huge tv screen and a computer in the room ... it was difficult to change the corean keyboard ;-)
The staff is very nice and you can make yourself toasts and coffee in the morning in a small kitchen. It is very well heated.
For sure there is also a very nice hotel in that area with a great buffet breakfast, Doulos Hotel, almost the same price but it was full when we tried to book, so Biz Hotel is a very good alternative.

Location is great. Near Subway exit #5 and the bustop to catch the airport bus is just further down the road in front of McD's. Plenty of inexpensive delicious local food shops / stalls around. Very near to the main city attractions & it's not expensive to take a taxi to any of the locations of interest if you choose not to walk. The hotel is painted in an unconventional style which looks rather garish, with splotches of orange on the walls of the hallway leading to the rooms (first impression was rather worrying - thought I had booked into a rundown/ seedy hotel) but found the rooms exactly like the pictures , it was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and they provide all necessary amenities except that the towels have seen it's day - they were grey with age . The size of the rooms was rather tight for a tripple share room (we didnt have space for our luggages). The simple breakfast of bread, jam & butter , coffee or porridge was adequate. Hotel staff speak fairly good English, were exceptionally helpful and cheerful. For the price I paid, I would consider staying here again.

I arrived at the hotel after flying 12 hours from London and I had some difficulty in finding it. I had to ask help to some locals. Anyway, after the first time you can see that the hotel is well indicated and very easy to reach (especially if you get out at the right exit of the underground).
I spent three nights there and the price was very cheap.
One of the most appreciated thing was that there was a PC in the room and so I could use it any time I needed (and so I checked the timetable of train, the timetable and map of several attractions, checked that my plane had no changes, etc.).
The staff is very friendly and even if their English was not perfect they helped me with a map and giving me directions.
Anyway, the breakfast could be improved because it is very basic (you can serve yourself with some toasts, butter, marmelade, milk, the, juice, etc.) and you have it in a quite bare and very hot room (and it was winter!).

We stayed about 10 days in there, the first night took us forever to find the hotel. After taking a bus from Incheon Airport (it takes an hour and it costs about 9,000 won) to Jungaro 3 , we took a taxi without know exactly where it was. Here I am attaching the hotel information card to make it easy to get there.

Rooms- LCD TV in all rooms, a PC in all rooms with internet connection. NO Wi-Fi. All the rooms are provided with coffee, tea, soap, towels, and toothpaste & toothbrush. We loved the free laundry service!

Breakfast- not bad. Bread, jam, butter, coffee, orange juice, and ALOE dring. Also they have Korean porridge and pickles.

Staff- the front desk people mainly speak fluent Japanese and a poor English since this hotel is mainly focused on Japanese tourists (The Korean owner speaks fluent Japanese).

Location- great location! you can walk to Insadong, Myeongdok (10 blocks away), Namdaemun market (8 blocks), and the subway station is just one block away.

Room tip: Some of the rooms at the 2nd floor are pretty dark since there are no windows. Upper floors much better.

As other reviewers have mentioned, it's an old hotel without fine decor or spacious rooms. But they are obviously trying hard to make it as comfortable as possible. The staff is friendly and helpful, even with limited English. The sheets are new and crisp, clean monogrammed towels are brought in every day, a computer with internet was in our room, the self-service breakfast includes several types of juice, toast, cold cereal, and juk (a rice and veggie porridge). The breakfast room is a good place to meet people from Japan, Korea, Sweden, Russia, etc. This hotel attracts budget travelers from around the world. No one I talked to complained about the simplicity or small rooms. Rather, the location is the big draw. It's off the main streets, so fairly quiet. But it's only a block away from the Jogno 3 ga subway station, a major hub. Even better, the best royal palaces are in walking distance. Insadong, the antiques, food, and shopping mecca, is 2 blocks away. It's 2 blocks from Tapgol Park. We felt completely safe at any time of the day. This is a great value for the money. However, there's no way to park a car closer than 2 blocks away. We rated it a 3 because it's truly only a 2-star quality, but it has the ideal location.
