My partner and I arrived in Seoul very early in the morning and we were lucky the hotel allowed us to check in nevertheless, so we showered and had the hotel concierge book a table for us at Jung Sik. Prior to our arrival, I did some homework on the various restaurants that are highly rated amongst the foodies, and I was thrilled we managed to get a table at the restaurant.
We did not have much trouble locating the restaurant and arrived on time. We were ushered to our table at a little corner of the small restaurant by a very polite gentleman who presented to us our menu and food choices for lunch that day. We chose the 5-course lunch.
It started with amuse broche. 4 selections of exquisite morsels of the chef's creation which were glutinous rice parcels and caramelized potato bites. They were all wonderfully executed and offered little surprises to the taste buds as you bite into them.
The main course of lobster with Gochujang was amazing. A wonderful medley of contrasting tastes and textures. The presentation was outstanding. There was a fried chicken bibimbap that was super tasty, slightly spicy, savory with a hint of sweetness. The symphony of tastes which explode in your mouth harmoniously every time you chew was a beautiful experience.
The sea bass was fresh, firm and tender at the same time, with the skin fried to a crispy perfection. It was another dish well-executed.
The dessert platter for 2 was a rich and creamy ice cream which came with a plethora of different toppings like brownies, pistachios and salted caramel. The concept was interesting, and you could pair your dessert in any manner that pleases you.
The coffees and petite fours were a lovely end to an amazing lunch. The service staff were polite and patient, they could converse in English reasonably well.
We had a beautiful first proper meal in Seoul and look forward to returning soon.
