Thanks to Nermeen and team at Steigen for making my birthday special! I stayed here from 27th-30th March. The checkin process was smooth, thanks to Ahmed and the room was super comfy and modern- exactly like in the pics. Liked the bath fittings and lighting...and the attention to small details like a sticker bearing the hotel name, to seal the end of the toilet paper roll...these are the things that take a hotel from being "just good" to "great".
They went the extra mile by helping my husband in arranging a birthday cake for me, and contacting the tour operator when we had some issues !

We chose this hotel due to it's proximity to the Egyptian Museum (it's just a 3-4 minute walk from the hotel), and the Tahrir square, although in hindsight it wouldn't have made much difference coz most tour operators in Cairo offer a pick up and drop service, and there isn't much to do at the square itself (unlike the squares in European cities).

The breakfast spread was sumptuous and we were spoiled for choice. But what made it truly special was the warmth and hospitality of the entire restaurant staff (especially the Restaurant Manager- Amr ElGendy) who would come and check if everything was ok and offer coffee with a smile! Really, that's the BIGGEST differentiator- the courtesy and warmth of the staff at Steigen. It was in such a stark contrast to Hilton Ramses where I stayed later- a decision that I regret.
Overall, a 6 star experience!

We were booked to stay here March 4 until the 8th. Upon arrival, around 11 am we expected to be told to wait until check in time in the afternoon. Instead, we met the always smiling Nermeen Mohammed, head of guest services who gave us two great news - 1. we can go in the room immediately and 2. we were upgraded to a mini suite for absolutely no reason. This was a very pleasant surprise and we were very appreciative.

Nermeen was absolutely amazing and excels at her job. Her English is perfect, her personality it totally suited for customer service, as she is attentive, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. She recommended what to see around the area of our hotel, where to eat and after we asked her, booked us on an amazing boat tour of the Nile (with dervishes and belly dancing) and an all day Cairo experience (trip to the Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili, etc.). She also made a call to the airlines, as the agents spoke only Arabic and Italian. This was clearly not her job, but she was always proactive in making our stay at the Steigenberger and in Cairo in general, amazing and memorable. She is a true asset to the hotel and one of the reasons why we loved our stay here so much.

We stayed in room 1032, top floor, non-smoking. The room was large, bright, clean with extremely comfortable, large bed and a great shower/bathroom. The view from the room was that of the area in front of the Egyptian Museum and looking down we could see the pool area. We were within walking distance of Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum and the Nile. Also nearby was the shopping area, where you can mingle with the locals.

The only slightly negative thing about the room (which has NOTHING to do with the hotel or its staff) is the fact that it has a door to the room next door. I guess that turns both into an adjoining suite. The gentlemen who stayed there for a couple of nights enjoyed listening to loud music, however it was random and did not take away our enjoyment of the room whatsoever.

The hotel is very safe (there is a guard dog and security guards inspecting each and every car and visitor coming through the gate, around the clock, for everyone's safety). In addition, upon entry, you go through a metal detector in the lobby as well. At first, that seemed odd or a bit of an overkill, however considering the way of the world, it is much better to be safe, than sorry.

We loved how hard everyone kept working, from our room steward, Yahia, to reception staff, to Mohammed (on night shift) and Hamed, bartender at the pool. All the staff we encountered were friendly, attentive and professional. It was a pleasure to see all of them daily and it made our stay extra special.

We did not prepurchase breakfast, as the prices on Expedia seemed steep and we are glad that we did not. Once at the hotel, we realized that because the Egyptian pound is so low, everything is more than reasonable and affordable. Accordingly, we ate room service morning, noon and night (well, except for the days we went out exploring Cairo and the Pyramids). Since we have ordered almost every single thing on their room service menu, I am happy to report that everything was amazingly fresh and delicious and extremely cheap. They had an awesome selection of foods and snacks on there and the portions were very hearty. Room service also delivered free water bottles daily, which is a nice touch.

Since prices were so low once converted in American dollars, we even had our laundry done at the hotel. Talk about over the top presentation for next to nothing in cost! Our t-shirts and other clothing, came individually wrapped in a cellophane in a box.

We were treated and felt like royalty our entire stay.

The hotel has a pool, with chaise lounges and a bar in the corner. We had food and smoked shisha there and enjoyed our last day, while catching some rays and taking in the music of Egyptian traffic :)

There is a gym and a sauna, which you can use free of charge and also a massage room (which I believe is a paid service).

Upon check out we were given a parting gift (see picture) which was unnecessary but still a nice surprise. We had to check out very early on March 8, as we had to be at the airport at 1 am.

This is where our trip took a turn for the worst, because Expedia had issued us with tickets on Alitalia, which belonged to EgyptAir. After horrendous 5 hours of the airport we were stranded in Egypt with no tickets out. Our only option was to go back to the hotel and try to check back in and figure out how to make Expedia take responsibility and get us on another flight.

Upon arrival back at the hotel, we explained everything to Mohammed, night shift reception staff, who had checked us out a few hours earlier. He felt terrible for our predicament and told us we can have our old room back immediately. He also gave us a complimentary late check in, so that we can sleep before trying to sort out the mess Expedia started. After our nap, we went downstairs and luckily for us, Nermeen was on shift as usual. We told her what had happened and she gave us the lowest rate for the room, so that we can at least not worry about accommodation for the day. We were so relieved that the hotel staff treated us like family and like VIPs, unlike Expedia who has had our business since 2009.

I was on the phone with Expedia for the next 10 hours, speaking with various agents, who were clueless and either hung up on me or were unable to comprehend what needs to be done to resolve our situation. I was downstairs by the pool, so that my husband can sleep in the room. I was offered refreshments by Hamid, a pool bartender on duty, and while on hold with Expedia I explained to him why I have been on the phone for hours. He told me to hang up so I do not pay long distance and instead use his cell phone, which has free long distance!! I almost started crying. This was incredibly and unexpectedly kind and generous. He had only just met me, yet took my situation to heart and went above and beyond the call of duty.

All of the staff at this hotel is EXCEPTIONAL, kind and all around amazing. They are great at their job and at any given moment are ready and do go out of their way to make you feel like family. I cannot say enough things about how much this meant to us. We will definitely come back for another visit and cannot wait to visit other Steigenberger hotels around the world.

Check in was easy and the room was modern and clean.

The location is right next to the main square in Cairo and there are lots of nice bars and restaurants nearby. I didn't have breakfast here as I prefer to use cafés when on holiday. The Cairo museum is a walk away.

The alcohol was expensive but nobody forced you to buy it.

I would recommend using Uber for airport as the hotel's pick up is double the price.

The staff were nice and the duty manager was very helpful when we were checking out by calling our Uber to ensure we got to the airport.

I would definitely stay here again as it is a nice hotel in a great location.

I think the way the staff members are behaving there is one of the best point in this lovely hotel, they are very professional, always smiling and very polite, great work guys. Regarding hotel location, it is very accessible just few steps from Metro station and the Egyptian museum. The reception is very modern but quite small. The conference halls are kept well, well equipped and everything there was great. The food quality was also nice.

Never ever visit this restaurant. Really one of the worst experience of life they gave beef falafel saying it’s vegetarian. Never recommend this hotel and restaurant for veg and even non veg as they are not professional in their job. Really it’s worst .take long time for checkin and smoking all the places. Please never go to this hotel
