Basma Hotel

I arrived in the middle of the night and had a smooth and swift check in, before finding our beautiful terrace room with incredibly comfortable bed. The morning sun from the terrace and view of the Nile was spectacular.
We were staying in Aswan for work at the Aswan Heart Centre and the Hotel Basma staff could not have been more accommodating.
Thanks to all there for making our stay so hassle-free.

Room Tip: The hotels with large terraces are stunning (416 is an example)

Located on a Hilltop above Aswan, this Older 4-Star Hotel is a Good Place to Recover from Jetlag or an Egyptian Adventure. It is across from the Nubian Museum (Highly Recommended) and Uphill from an Attractive Small Park. Other Aswan attractions can be reached by a Short Cab Ride. This Hotel reflects the Local Flavor (for Better or Worse). The Furnishings, Murals, Stained Glass, and Statuary that decorate the Public Spaces were Attractive and Interesting. The Room Decor was Clean but Basic - Dark Wood and Ceramic Tile Floors. We Enjoyed the Plentiful AC and our Small Private Balcony. The Pool and Terrace were Attractive with Beautiful Hilltop Views of the Nile. We Experienced Good Service and Good Food (Breakfast Buffet, Hamburger and Omelet). With Realistic Expectations Relative to Egypt, this Hotel offers an Affordable Escape.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view of the surrounding area. Lower floors still have a very nice view...

We arrived late in the evening from Luxor and it took ages to check in. We were there for 3 days. The room was OK (just) but had seen better days. There was no view of the Nile from the room as requested. The hotel is a rambling affair with the pool area in the centre.
When we arrived, the pool area had a large number of people using it (mostly families), that we threaded through to get to the dining room. The food in the dining room was woeful with very little choice - even in the buffet. As we were leaving the dining room, the pool area was being vacated and it appeared that the groups were local families - not guests of the hotel.
The food did not get any better over the other days - including breakfast.
The hotel is a fair distance from anything in Aswan and its a long walk or a taxi to the markets and downtown. There are better hotels in Aswan.

Room Tip: Insist on a Nile View room

People rave about the view over the Nile & it was excellent but you don't spend all day looking at the view. Otherwise, I and the rest of our party of 10 found it disappointing. Service was polite but slow, food was indifferent, breakfast apart. Buffet only available one night. Tonic water was kept in the lobby bar but gin in the restaurant bar and the only way they married the two was to send a runner to the other bar. You'd think they would learn quickly over 3 nights. Not impressed.

Now you can hardly get any views of the Nile river from the hotel rooms due to some construction works on the river shores. However the hotel is just a few steps away from Nubian museum and within walking distance to the Corniche-the Nile embankment.
I've been to most of the hotels in Aswan and must admit that food is not bad at all, both buffet and a la carte.
Also the hotel has a nice swimming pool area and they offer good massage at only 20 euro per hour.

Our hotel room had the best view! It was beautiful! Just what you would imagine an oasis to look like. Unfortunately we only spent one night here as we had to fly back to Cairo but enjoyed the location and the view! The only down side was they couldn't get wifi for us and we only had our phones with us not computers. But would certainly recommend this hotel.

Good location on high ground overlooking the nile, brilliant views of the botalical islands and the feluca's sailing at sunset, very close to the nubian museum ( which has good displays and lovely gardens/waterfalls). Had a lovely room on the 4th floor with terrace balcony, including sunbeds and dinning table ideal for a private meal overlooking the nile. Staff were very helpful, very large, quiet pool with swim-up pool bar and plenty of sunbeds. Breakfast was good with varied choice, omelettes, cheeses, salad, breads etc and lots of fresh coffee, would definatley stay again, November was a good time to travel ( averaged about 25 so not too hot ) lots to see in Aswan, especially Phillae Temple and Kalabsha, Markets much larger and more traditional than Luxor lots of bargans to be had, especially silver jewelry and egyptian oils.Recommed a felluca trip to the botanical islands, and sailing back by the old Cateract Hotel and Elephantine.

Room Tip: High floors are quieter, ask for Nile facing
