“Nice hotel”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

I have stayed here several times and have always been completely happy with my room and the good housekeeping. The pool area is very nice. The food is hit and miss (as with all Luxor hotels) but the restaurant by the pool has provided me with some very good lunches. They do a good pizza and a nice fish & chips. The pool used to be nice and deep, but they raised the bottom when they decided to heat it. I would prefer a deep pool, but that is my only complaint.

Normally only holiday every September, but decided to have 1 week in May at my usual hotel.
Everything was 100% as normal, lovely clean room with bedding and towels changed daily. Everyone welcomed me back with open arms (few surprised faces) as not my normal holiday time. Breakfast was great with varied choice which will suit all guests. Thanks to everyone for making my 1 week escape magical as normal, am counting down the weeks until I fly back in September! Too many people to thank, but here's a few:- Aly who's guest realations, Gaba in the bar, Ehab and Zein by the pool, I could go on and on and on..............................
Would like to mention the gardeners as they do a tremendous job keeping the grass, flowers and trees looking spectacular, wish I had a gardener like them!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are quieter, Nile view rooms slighly noisy but to be honest I didn't hardly here a...

My partner and I have has another lovely holiday in Luxor staying at the El Luxor. I have stayed there many times and it was my partner's second stay. It was at his insistence we returned after his first visit last October. I have always said it is like a home from home (but without the housework) and how they have always welcomed me back like family, my partner was able to experience this for himself.

Egypt is experiencing some very hard times and the city of Luxor more so. The hotel has always retained an atmosphere of friendliness and despite the hard times, this has not diminished. However, standards did start to slip several years back due to lack of investment in the hotel and as a result several tour companies have pulled the hotel from their brochures. Over the last two to three years, the hotel has gone through a refurbishment whilst remaining open and the disturbance to guests has been minimal. The result is that the hotel has now 60% completed rooms with the remaining rooms due to be completed shortly. There are grander hotels in Luxor and I have stayed at several of them, but none of them have the same atmosphere as the El Luxor.

The foyer is bright and airy and the pool area is clean and welcoming. Our bedroom was cleaned and hoovered every day with fresh bed linen and towels before 11 am. The hotel laundry is reasonably priced and is very efficient. We had a Nile view room with a view to die for.

There was a sandstorm half way through our holiday and stranded holiday makers were sent to our hotel for the night. The hotel coped extremely well in difficult circumstances.

The Government Building is next door and although we saw Egyptians petitioning there, at no time did we see any protests.

During our holiday, we did a four night cruise. The cruise was not for us (personal taste). On the last night we were docked in Luxor and rather then spend our last night on the boat, we returned early to the hotel. We had the same welcome as we received from when we arrived at the hotel on the first day of our holiday. Staff that we don't know particularly well asked where we had been and if we had enjoyed ourselves.

I hope for the sake of Ali and the hard working members of staff at the hotel that business will pick up for them sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: For a quiet room, ask for a Garden Room.

We stayed for two nights after a week on the Nile. The room was fine with a balcony overlooking the river. It was clean and roomy. There were a variety of placees to eat in the hotel with a variety of cuisines. The pool was lovely and well maintained the gardens were a delight - two gardeners working all day. Checking in as part of a group was a bit of a pain, but I think that it was the Egyptian beaurocracy rather than that of the hotel.

Love this hotel. Have stayed elsewhere before, the location of The El Luxor is ideal for us. Breakfast overlooking the Nile, and seeing the caleche horses eating their breakfast is a lovely way to start the day.

Ali the guest relations guy is the friendliest most pleasant man you could ever wish to meet. The hotel must count themselves lucky that he works for them, as he enhances your stay.

The pool area is very quiet when you realise the road is not far away, but its a little oasis of calm and tranquility.

In an evening we loved sitting on the balcony overlooking the Nile enjoying a coffee, just people watching and letting the world go by.

Very relaxed hotel and will return in the future. We had no worries of safety while visiting Luxor, our local town in England has more problems than visiting here!

Room Tip: We love the Nile view rooms, but up to you. There are garden view rooms available too.

I have stayed at this hotel both times i have visited Luxor, It was a family holiday and they were very happy to get us 6 rooms all together on the floor we prefured. The staff are very friendly and happy to help with anything you might need. The pool is lovely, with a bar and restaurant. Also where the hotel is places is very good, 5 mins from luxor temple and museum, 15 mins from karnak temple and just across the road from the nile so you also have a beautiful view. I would deffinatly recomend you stay at this hotel if you go to luxor and i can garantee you will go back.

Room Tip: The rooms around the pool on the ground level towards the back of the hotel are good because they ar...

Again my wife and I enjoyed a fabulous week stay in the fantastic El Luxor. Yes it is home from home without any doubt. The food was excellent as was the service. As usual Ali was very energetic in meeting the gusts and sorting out any problems they may have had. The Managers as always were most welcoming as were the Reception staff. Staff in the Champollion and the main dining rooms were always eager to please the guests. We spent time around the pool making new friends in a very pleasant ambiance with waiters eager to serve you with fresh snacks and drinks.
The hotel is ideally placed for all the main temples and tombs. Sail along the Nile for a day or take a Caleche along through the city but beware of tricksters. As advised always negotiate a price in Egyptian pounds BEFORE the journey for all members of the party. We travelled in a carriage pulled by a pony called Rambo to the ACE shelter just outside Luxor. (www.ace-egypt.org.uk) When we arrived the pony was treated to a sand bath then a shower plus his harness was degreased and he was wormed all for free. The cost to us was 60 LE (£6) for the return journey. A half day with a gentle journey to help a pony – fantastic. The driver (Licence 338) took us through the real Luxor on return and it was a fascinating insight into how people lived.
Egypt desperately needs tourists and 99% of the people are great and very welcoming.
Get booking at the El Luxor for a fantastic time and to soak up some real Egyptian hospitality.
Yes taxi drivers, felucca owners, caliche drivers are all eager for business and can be seen to be a little overbearing at times but they are only trying to make a very meagre living. There is no reason to be rude to them as we witnessed many times whilst walking along the corniche. If being rude to the locals is your way then please stay away!
We are returning in the Autumn and cannot wait.
Many new guests were accommodated for an emergency overnight on the 18th of April. The Hotel managed admirably making a superb buffet dinner at very short notice. Yes some gusts may have been short of a towel or a pillow but nothing that could not be remedied by a simple phone call to room services. Some guests decided to take their frustration and anger out on the hotel and the facilities because of the delay but this was just juvenile petulance at being delayed and nothing to do with the El Luxor hotel itself. The lengthy delay in giving us the correct information was Thomas Cooke Holidays not the El Luxor fault
A very useful page for visitors to Luxor is http://www.luxortraveltips.com/index.html
PS this was my 8th or 9th stay at the El Luxor!

Room Tip: Speak to the hotel staff about getting a NIle View - Views to die for.
