Stayed here for three nights at the end of a week long Safari. Just a great spot. Really glamping not camping. Food and service was impeccable. It’s only 13 tents and for two nights there were only nine guests. Lounge tent with a bar. Local hippo in the river just in front and I could hear him going back there each morning. Cyrus and all the staff are fantastic and personable. Just sit around the campfire and talk. And as you’re in the middle of Mara you can get to more spots on the trips.

There are many positives to this tented camp. One of the best things is its location by the Mara River and that you can see hippos and crocodiles when you step a few meters from your tent to the edge of the river. The hippos make really funny noise, which I suppose some people may find annoying but it did not bother us. Quite the contrary, it made us feel like we really were in the wild. The campsite has a lot of trees and as it is inside Masai Mara, you do not have to drive far before you can start spotting animals. In fact, a few giraffes tend to spend time just outside the camp. When it is dark, guests are escorted by staff to and from their tents, as the camp is not fenced and wild animals can venture into the camp, such as their resident hippo that is known to visit regularly.

When we arrived, we were given a good induction by the manager, a nice, talkative chap with a sense of humour. He was very helpful throughout our stay and the staff in general were friendly and courteous. Our tent was very spacious and clean and provided a lot of privacy. It had some carefully selected decorative objects and nice furniture such as an armchair and a comfortable big double bed. We saw a handful of harmless small bugs in our tent and there is a bug spray in a room should you need it, so these uninvited guests were not a big issue even for someone like me who really dislikes bugs. The bathroom was fine and hot water was available for several hours in the evenings when the staff heat the water by firewood. For us this worked well. There was drinking water available in the room. You get a hot water bottle in bed every night to keep you warm, as the nights are much cooler than the days. This is a nice touch. When it got dark, there was lighting in both the bedroom and the bathroom. There is no aircon but at least in March there really was no need for it. Besides, you are staying in a tent so it is hardly reasonable to expect all the creature comforts of home. We had all our meals in the camp and on the whole, the food was pretty good. There is a campfire next to the lounge/bar tent and it was nice to sit by the fire and have a drink and a chat with other people staying in the camp before heading to dinner.

There are a few areas where the camp could improve and one of them is wifi, which they have in their common areas. The wifi did not work at all on the first day and on the following days it was only switched on when we mentioned that we unable connect to it. This was okay but slightly annoying. One day the wifi was really slow. On our first night, the power sockets in our tent were not working. This was fixed promptly after we informed the staff. One evening the power was not turned on at 17:00; this is the time when we had been told we would have power in our room. Another slightly annoying thing was that the toilet flush was not great. The pool was a sorry sight and it was was not cleaned during our stay but this was probably because it had been raining every night for a few days and I don’t think anyone desperately wanted to swim because the weather was not very hot even during the day.

If you want to stay in a rather nice tented camp in a pretty awesome location, this may be a place for you.

Excellent location, excellent accommodation, excellent staff, excellent vibe, too much food! And that is why I keep on coming back!

If you are a Scarface fan (the lion), stay here! The times I have woken up to his roaring, uncountable!

Staff amazing, manager so funny, beds super cozy, river views for all tents, rooms huge, resident hippo, migration crossings either within the camps' boundaries (as witnessed in Aug 2017) or within 1km of the camp, local lions (including the famous Musketeers) nearly always sighted on a daily basis, extremely comfortable camp.

True gem in the Mara! Love it!

Great location next to river and lots of Hippo and Crocodiles. As soon as you leave the camp you are with the wildlife. We had a giraffe which was nearly always just outside the lodge entrance. The staff were very helpful and attentive.
Downside: The food was average with too much carb type food: pasta and potato rice. Hugh amounts and kept making us feel guilty about leaving food even though we insisted on smaller portions.
