I fell in love from the moment i stepped off tbe plane. Best staff on the planet, fantastic tented site with amazing view of the Mata river and an abundance of wildlife on your doorstep. All the staff were superb. Our driver Mike was really knowledgeable and friendly and our waiter Anthony made every mealtime a total pleasure. I loved it so much that I cried when it was time to leave. I can't wait to return. Simply the most amazing experience ever. Thank you Harrison and all your hard working staff.

Our stay at Governor's Camp was fantastic, exceeded our expectations in every way. We had a package that included our flights into Mara on Governor's aviation and also the hot air balloon ride with champagne breakfast. The flight from Nairobi Wilson airport to the airstrip near the camp was on a 12 seater Cessna which proved to be almost like our private aircraft as it had only six passengers on the day. Rebecca greeted us on arrival at the camp with a welcome drink and hot towel. Check in was smooth and we were briefed on the daily schedule.
Breakfast and lunch is served buffet style with outdoor seating and you can gaze out to the grassland while eating. Dinner is served in a dining hall and you will be served a set menu at your table. Food is plentiful and most of the dishes we were served were quite tasty. During our meals at various times we saw giraffes, mongoose, warthogs and hippos right from our table!
The tent is serviced by your own personal butler and is equipped with high end toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizing lotion. A dedicated tap in the bathroom brings you safe to to drink RO water. Hot water is plentiful and the shower feel luxurious after all the game drives.
Our balloon ride on one of the mornings was a serene experience. Seeing the glorious sunrise and all the animals below you makes a city dweller just go 'wow'!
We went on multiple game drives and visited a Masai village in the three days we were at the camp. Our driver/ guide Ntuala, was an amazing person to take us around on our first safari . Ntuala was with us on all our game drives. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and determined to show you as much as he can or as much as you want at whatever pace you choose. We saw so much more than we had imagined. Lions, cheetahs, leopard, rhino, hyenas, jackals, wildebeest, giraffes.....Elephants and zebras and gazelles, impalas, topi were everywhere! The hippos are right on the river that runs by the camp.
While there are many camps and animals in the Mara, what separates Governor's camp from the others is the warmth of all the service staff. Camp manager Harrison is ably supported by his team. A guest is assigned a tent attendant, table service staff and bar service staff who will look after them for their entire stay. We were fortunate to be looked after by Tony and Regina during our meals. They made a note of all our preferences right from the first meal to the last breakfast. Our butler Henry woke us up every morning with bed tea and a 'hello' in his dulcet voice. It was the perfect wake up call as most mornings we were out of bed either at 4.45am or 5.45am!
We definitely want to return to the Masai Mara soon and we cant imagine staying any where other than Governor's!

I am well travelled but I have to say this is the best place I have ever visited. From arriving at the Governors aviation, all the staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. When we arrived to the camp, we were greeted and our bags were taken and we were shown to our amazing tents which were AMAZING. Giraffes and warthogs were a regular site all day at the camp. We stayed for 6 nights and our tour guide Antony was amazing. We saw every animal imaginable, including Rhino, Cheetah, leopard, Lions and the Cubs, elephant, hippo and many many more. We visited the Masai village which was incredible but just watch when they ask you to buy items from there shop as they rip you off and we felt a little uncomfortable putting items back. We took the children colouring books which they loved. We had an amazing massage whilst staying at the camp and there are a range of treatments you can have. You will have to pay for drinks whilst at the camp but they are very good value for money. The food is incredible. Every meal we had was beautiful and again the staff can’t do enough for you, I would also recommend to have the bush breakfast at least once. I would recommend you take binoculars and a good camera. A lovely experience. A 5 star rating from me and I will 100% be back in the future. Amazing

Part two of our honeymoon.

What a great experience. Our first safari ever. Im 33 and my wife is 27.

We had a stop over at hemminways for 2 nights then we got transferred to governors camp airport lounge the staff where great and were happy to store our additional luggage for third part of holiday. Drinks, snacks and toilets available there.

The Lady at the desk was very friendly and commented how excited my wife looked, She guaranteed that we would see the ‘Big 5’ and she was right!

Then, maybe 40 mins before we were transferred through into security area which was quick and efficient.

Flight in was great fun, little bumpy at times but nothing worrying great seeing it from the air. As you are going nearer to the camp, the pilot flies low so you can see the wildlife. We saw Wildebeest, Zebras, Giraffes and Elephants.

We had one stop before our camp to drop off other guests to another Camp.

When we landed at the landing strip we were greeted by our safari guide Sopia, who sorted our bags and got us to camp.

As soon as we got there it was jaw dropping . As we only ever really done beach holidays this was very different, in a good way.

The camp is set on a 8 meter high river bank. With hippos and crocodiles…I loved it. The sounds the hippos make are brilliant. Ask why they wag there tails!!! It’s now a running joke in my family.

Once we arrived at our tent, we could see a large hippo in the river, it was amazing.

Our tent was better than i thought, not luxury but good standard for being in the middle of nowhere. The toilet and shower is hard standing, clean and tidy. Hot water at night and it was very hot. Thank you to James, who cleaned our tent and kept it tidy.

The bed was comfy and cosy.

The safari drives were great fun, even the early morning ones. These were our favourites as its cool and you see the most animals.

The middle of the day one can be hot but not as long.

My wife is vegetarian and there was always something for her to eat, The food is great. Thank you to Paul and Francis who always looked after our table and got our drinks and food.

We had hippos lions and elephants in camp while we were there but never felt unsafe. There were always rangers at night, who walk you to dinner.

Our safari Guide, Sopia was brilliant and he ensured we we saw the big 5.. at one place we saw 60 odd hippos it was amazing and the biggest crocodile I’ve ever seen
We could not believe how many animals there is in one place.

We had lions and a leopard nearly at arms reach… They did not seem to bothered about the trucks at all. Sopia was very knowledgable and answered all our questions our the animals.

Thank you to everyone for such a great experience, it is something we could not put in to words and an experience that we will never forgot.

If you like to carry on reading about our trip, next was Hurawalhi Island Resort, Maldives

** Nairobi immigration!!!!!! Highly recommend buying your visa online in advance!!! We were some of the first off the plane. We filled out the cards given on the plane. We asked a guy in immigration which queue we needed to join, he looked at our cards and pointed one out. When we got to front we were told we got it wrong and had to buy a visa for $50 in the first two queue which was the biggest. We ended up in that closed area with no air condition or fans or water shops for two hours as we had to go to the back of the queue.
Buy one in advance!!!!
Our tour operated never told us about this and maybe the hotels could of just put a heads up as i was in communication to them both by e-mail.**
