Novotel Beijing Peace
Ranked #66 of 6,596 Hotels in Beijing
Reviewed 16 August 2011

I traveled to Beijing with my graduate school. The Novotel Peace Hotel was average, nothing great but not terrible either. The room was big enough for two of us, although not a room meant for people who don't know each other too well. The door to the bathroom was glass and had light frosting to it which didn't add to much privacy. The shower in the bathroom had no water pressure and was an interesting contraption - there was water coming out of the ceiling along with a wand that had water coming out of it. The room also always flooded anytime you took a shower. The airconditioning seemed to turn off after a couple of hours every night which made very warm sleeping conditions, so I wish there could have been a way to keep the air on throughout the night. The one good thing about the room was the view. We had a great view down the road and of the city. Overall the stay was fine, if you need a basic place to stay but if you want a cooler and more luxurious hotel, I would look to other places.

Room Tip: Stay on the Premium Level, our room seemed to be larger than the rooms not on the premium floor.

I stayed at the Novotel at Taoyuan Int'l Airport in Taipei, Taiwan on July 30 before I stayed at the Novotel in Beijing on Aug 10. The facilities at both locations are comparable and very good. However, the service in Taiwan was much better than in Beijing. The reception desk in Beijing was not as friendly and polite as that in Taiwan. Perhaps they were not well trained. The worst part was when I asked for a taxi to the Beijing South Station. The reception desk did not take reservation. The concierge asked me to go to the front door to wait for a taxi from the street. There were actually several taxis available in the parking lot. But they wouldn't take me, because they only go to the airport for a higher fee - perhaps the hotel could get a commission for that arrangement. This experience seriously damaged my image of the Novotel in Beijing.

The agent booked this hotel and told us it was 5 star.
The surroundings were beautiful and the staff were friendly and helpful but the bed was HARD with a very thin mattress.
This was noit what I expected at all and it made for very uncomfortable sleeping.
Other than that it was a great location - close to shopping and tourist attractions so I would still recommend to others.

Good city center hotel, offering family rooms and pool for an acceptable price. We booked a premier family room. One room with a king, one room with 2 sofa beds.
Officially, the room is offered with 3 bedding. Could not get confirmation by e-mail that 2 adults and 2 children was ok. But at arrival, adding an extra bed was not a problem. There is plenty of space for that in the room. Comfortable clean modern room and bath. Breakfast included. We had access to the VIP lounge at 19th floor, which offers great views over the forbidden city (however a new hotel is being build ‘in between’) offers refreshments and a happy hour (and breakfast) however we used the lager breakfast buffet in the restaurant. There is a (relatively small) pool. However to Beijing standards (and our kids) adequate. It’s only for an hour in the afternoon.
Location excellent: near Wangfujing Street shopping district, walking distance to subway, not far from Forbidden City. Many taxi’s around. Some nice places to eat. Supermarket ‘Olé’ in the basement of one of the 2 malls nearby.
Would stay here again.

Very nice rate with two rooms suited for a family. A pity breakfast is not included in the room price. Location is excellent close to shops and forbidden city. Very helpful and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. In average, a very good hotel to be recommended.
