Yikes. If staying here, stay in the taller wing above reception. Do not stay in the shorter tower unless you want the feel of being in a Chinese 50 square foot apartment, including authentic dollar store furniture and rock hard beds.

Room Tip: As mentioned, choose the taller tower.

Very, very disappointed with this hotel. I booked this hotel as it was close to Wangfujing but the level of service in this hotel was so low it almost ruined my holiday.

First, the rooms were so old and musty. We asked to be transferred to another room but it was as ugly as the first. The doors to the bathroom do not even close properly. The internet was so painfully slow.

As we booked an executive room, we were supposed to be entitled to breakfast either at the executive lounge or on the ground floor (where there were supposedly more food choices). Everyday, the staff would question us and say that we were not on their list. Whenever we told them that we've got breakfast with our room, they would let us in but still wouldn't update their list. On our last day, they just decided not to let us in anymore and asked us to go speak to Reception. I just started complaining to Reception when a guy (who looked like a supervisor) came running to us and apologised for their mistake. And that was after 7 days of putting us through hell every morning.

Concierge was very unhelpful and the bell boys were always just chatting outside instead of helping the guests. The food was okay, nothing to be too excited about.

I would never ever recommend this hotel to anyone - it's an embarrassment to the Novotel chain.

We stayed here for 5 nights, solely of the location... Very near to Wang Fu jing pedestrian shopping, forbidden city, museum, the room a bit run down, put us at the old wing...probably of the value rate... The front desk well converse in English, hope to be back....

As in any Novotel, the staff in the front desk speak very good English and are very accomodating. The lobby and public areas are in excellent shape. The 2 Macs are convenient to getting email even though they were very slow to download attachments.
Unfortunately we were booked in the old wing which requires going up the lobby staircase, going thru various halls, and again climbing 8 step stairs to access the 2nd floor where after another long alley will get you to the elevator that will take you to the 5th floor.
The rooms were very clean and the amenities were okey. Wifi in the rooms has enough strength to send and receive emails.
Specify to get rooms in the main tower so you avoid these long and circuitous route to your room.

Room Tip: Rooms that start with 2 are on the old wing. Avoid them.

This hotel could be great if they tried a little harder. It's in a great location, walking distance to hutongs and the Wangfujin, and maybe even Tiananmen square if you're up for a good hike (it looks close on a map but it's actually not that close). Breakfast has lots of western and Chinese options and was tasty. The staff is friendly and tries hard to make things right but so many things were wrong that I just can't give them a positive review.

First off, I booked a hotel pick up from the airport and they forgot. Bad bad. Nothing is worse than being stranded at the airport in a country were you don't speak the language. They made it up by offering a return trip for free which I appreciated. Next, the rooms were just not clean, especially the bathroom. We booked the Superior Room in the new wing. There was mold and soap scum in the showers in both the rooms we booked and stains on the carpet. However, the bed was fine and the furnishings were modern, but it still didn't feel like a quality stay. The final straw came when they were doing some sort of maintenance on our floor flooding the room with the strong smell of varnish. They upgraded us to the premium floor, again apologizing profusely and with our appreciation but too many things went wrong within the first day to overlook it. The service and the staff are very nice but watch out for the concierge desk. When we told them we wanted to book tickets to an acrobats show, the concierge offered us a side deal that would save us money but we were to go through him, not the hotel. It turns out, he was charging us more for the tickets.

The staff in general tries very hard but if you're looking for a four star stay, you need to look elsewhere. You will be disappointed.

Room Tip: make sure you stay in the newest wing.
