Getting off the elevator on the 6th floor (a so called non smoking floor) we could not even see to the end of the hall. The cigarette smoke was thick and coming from several rooms of chinese clients having room parties and smoking heavily with their room doors open. Even in the lobby toilets next to the non smoking sign a guest next to me lit up a cigar. The staff did not care even when brought to their attention.
Breakfast was awful. The egg cook doesn't start till 7am so dont look for an early breakfast at this hotel even though the resturant starts at 6am.
Rooms were large and bathrooms are huge. Beds are the hardest I have ever had the displeasure to try and sleep on. I felt every spring. Would have been better sleeping on the dirty carpet.
Good location but there are so many better options.

It s an aged hotel....not recently renovated. The pool is giving the impression of being dirty because of years....

Even though at the reception the employees can not speak english ...but only some words...
In order to communicate with a restaurant or a travel agency we had to ask from the reception staff only to make a call. The employees could not understand what we need.
The man at the front desk-outside the entrance of the hotel-when called for a taxi told us that no taxi would take us where we wanted to go if not paying "money more...."

Location is good not far from the "forbidden city" and in walking distance from the pedestrian part of Wangfusing street about 15 min.and 10 min from the metro station...

Room Tip: Do not wait any help from the hotel staff

This is a nice reprieve from Beijing. Like it seems with all hotels in Beijing, there is no temperature control. The only time we could get the fans to work is if we took the key card out of the slot for electricity... then the fan would for some reason come on. The controls for it did nothing. A fan in the bathroom would be very helpful, but there really wasn't one. Besides that, the room was very nice. The internet does not work besides right by the door to the room, in the halls, and in the lobby, but actually in some ways works better than in a lot of China (ahem). The breakfast was very good. It will likely be the healthiest meal you'll eat all day. It has many options and the coffee is great. I'd suggest just going ahead and getting the meal plan when you book. We didn't, and every day the (same) hotel staff seemed so confused when we came to pay for it. The front desk staff is very nice. The other staff - housekeeping, the guy who mans the pool, are not. I don't see why housekeeping has to be nice, but the pool guy's only job as far as I could tell was giving out keys for the lockers, etc., but when you asked for one he'd groan and hem and haw... even though he was just sitting at his desk with nothing else to do (usually talking on the phone or watching something). The sauna was great for sweating out the toxins of Beijing.. especially when it was turned on... it still emanated some heat when turned off too. I didn't bother with the pool because it's in an awkward location - upstairs and not connected from the locker rooms, and you have to go through some wading pool to get into the main area... not sure what was going on and didn't want to ask the scary pool guy! The area it's in seems to have at one time (maybe 80s or 90s?) been a happening place, but now it's run-down and there are some abandoned formerly luxury hotels and venues... kind of weird... but it's still an OK location for getting to places, especially with the subway nearby. It's very good for your money, I'd say.

Very good location close to the main tourist area. Lovely reception and rooms. Only downside was the price of food and drinks at the hotel. Not worth eating there, many nicer and cheaper places nearby. Definitely a great place to stay whilst visiting Beijing.
