“An Over Priced Hotel - Only due its Locatin”
Reviewed 26 April 2012

Stayed at the hotel in Apr 12. The hotel location is excellent however a number of things are put offs. Has a small lobby as compared to hotels of this stature. Rooms are congested. Furniture in the room is old and desperately needs renovation. The best view that the rooms offer is of 3rd ring Rd, which is not much of interest though. The rooms on other sides have less to offer. Airconditioning is poor, Imagine I stayed in Apr and had to keep thermostat at minimum to have barely pleasant temp in the room. Housekeeping is loose. They took away my personal toothbrush (for reasons unknown), didn't clean the dust bin for 2 days and I had to put it near the entrance for them to clean it. Has a dead environment in the Coffee Shop, as I didn't see anyone playing the piano kept there. Breakfast is good and suites everyone's taste.. An Indian Restaurant 'Tandoor' serves culinary delights from Sub continent but meat is Not Halal though vegetarian and sea food dishes taste good. LAN in the room and free wi fi in the lobby is a Plus besides excellent location. Walking distance from Bar Street, Sanlitun Village (High end shopping area) and Silk Market is at a taxi distance. Nearby are diplomatic apartments so u get to see many foreigners in the area. Has three Muslim restaurants just across the street; Lebanese (1001 Nights), Turkish and Persian(Rumi). Has train (Metro) station round the corner (5 mins walk), which is a great convenience for those who do not want to be stuck in miserable traffic jams of Beijing. Overall the hotel can be recommended for stay primarily due its location, breakfast as second plus and availability of complimentary internet (thru LAN) in the rooms and Wi Fi in the lobby.

Room Tip: Coose the Room facing 3rd ring Road for you this is the best you possibly can get.

Although the Zhaolong is aging a little, it's still a very good hotel. I stayed here last in 2010 and the hotel does seem to have been spruced up a bit.

Service levels are fantastic, staff very helpful and make you feel welcome.

Beds are comfy, some say a little hard, but like Goldilocks I thought it was just right.
Breakfast buffet is one of the best I have seen, huge variety of both Western and Chinese food available, all good quality.

Internet - Mark them down here. It is slow. There is no wireless in the rooms. I work in IT so bypassed the Great Firewall of China rather quickly but very very slow. Skype connections often drop out.

There is water in the room, two bottles in the bathroom are free, but the Evian on your desk is VERY expensive. Suggest you buy water outside of the hotel. (45RMB for a large bottle versus less than 5 on the street). There is no coffee or milk in the room either, so go buy a jar if you are a coffee drinker. (This is typical though of the Chinese who drink tea mostly).

There are a number of power points in the room which is nice considering some hotels make it almost impossible to access any.

There is a number of middle eastern restaurants over the road which offer good food and some have belly dancer shows. (Though this was poorish, (my wife teaches belly dancing)).
Further up the side road are more shopping and eating areas.

There is a great park on the other side of the ring road and down a bit towards the city center. Highly recommend a visit. (See traditional Chinese water painting and Tai Chi etc).

Overall the Zhaolong is a good choice for a stay in Beijing, the location is good too.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main roads are a little quieter, however even facing the road, the sound insulat...

I stayed at the Zhaolong for 5 nights. Free internet is included but the speed is very slow, wifi is only available in the lobby. The room was good size, clean but I found the bed a bit hard. As some other reviewers have commented there is a bit of a bad smell in the bathroom - but nothing that bothered me really.

My major issue with the hotel is the very noisy motorway just outside the hotel. In addition to fly over six lane Third ring road there is an intersection with the equally busy Worker's Stadium Rd so I found the traffic noise quite tiring. Having said this, the location is pretty handy for many sights and for my various meetings around town.

The breakfast buffet was OK with a good selection of Chinese dishes and a passable selection of cereals etc. Some of the service staff were less than helpful - others were very friendly and attentive.

The concierge desk had difficulties locating cards with the hotels information/location on them in Chinese - which is a bit of an issue if you need to use taxis. I would have expected these to be readily available.

The hotel is not five star - but nearer the low/medium end of a four star hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which does not face the third ring road (and avoid a 6 lane motorway next to your bed...

We booked two rooms and stayed four days over new years. They decided to remodel and hammers were flying. The neglected to tell us this when we booked the rooms and later said it was a last minute decision. The noise was supposed to be from 9:00 until 6:00 but one morning they started hammering at 7:20. We called and yelled at the manager and they stopped, but by then we were up.

Two of our party got sick from bad creamer left on the breakfast buffet for days. They removed the sweaty dried cheese after we complained also.

Do your self a favor, skip this hotel the management is weak, and the facility is old, plus
the food will kill you.

Stayed at Zhaolong Hotel late October for China Coal and Mining Expo. This is the third time I have stayed. Hotel represents great value with suite costing 1200 rmb per night. But now showing its age with a marked drop off in staff understanding English. No Wirless internet in room

Room Tip: Always get a room on Executive Floors

I am extremely disappointed with the Zhaolong Hotel and Hotels.com. I booked 6 rooms for our business team for 4 nights with the Zhaolong. To start, the majority of the showers would not drain, and the air conditioning would not work in the rooms. The day before we were to check out, 3 of our team had to fly to other cities for meetings, and each of us checked out at front desk. The first 2 persons checked out by 6am, the third (myself) by 9am. Zhaolong Hotel staff said they would refund us except we booked through Hotels.com and that we should let Hotels.com know they would refund us. I tried Hotels.com's 1-800 number but it does not work in Asia. Upon arrival at home in North America, I called Hotels.com looking for the 3-room/night refund. Hotels.com called the Zhaolong who said we never checked out until 6pm that night, hence were charging us for the last night which is an outright lie. Each of us had plane tickets (2 for morning flights to the city of Zhengzhou by 8:30 am, myself a late afternoon flight to the city of Chengdu) to prove we were long checked out but Hotels.com would not believe us or try to help us out by asking for copies of our flight tickets. I recommend that you avoid using Hotels.com or booking into the Zhaolong Hotel Beijing if you wish to avoid being scammed.

Room Tip: If you need a room in the Embassy District of Beijing, stay just down the street at the Comfort Inn...
