So I used a tour group called Contiki for my time in China. This is the start of the tour, we stayed 2 nights here and I wasn't sure what to expect. The good news is that there was a transfer fro the airport and I didn't have to explain to a cab where to go.

If you never been ti China and is from the US, Canada or any Western country be ready for a culture shock. Since all the writing is in characters and the language is Tone based - meaning that a word can have up to 4 meanings depending on how you say the word - it will be very tough for you to get around China without a tour guide or translator.

The lobby of this hotel is nice and spacious, the front desk is helpful and speaks a small bit of English... with enough effort you will be able to communicate. There is a restaurant as well as lobby bar available for your convenience. There is a small gift shop as well. Immediately outside is a convenience store for water, drinks, beer, etc...

This hotel is within walking distance to Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City, expect a 15 - 20 minute walk. You can also to go the Temple of Heaven within 10 - 15 minutes.

The rooms are pretty average, nothing very fancy but it is clean. The bathrooms are pretty decent as well. You probably won't be spending much time in your room, but at least it is clean and safe.

Red Wall Hotel is small hotel just 5 minutes walk to the north gate of the Forbidden City. Its in a little side street and some taxi drivers dont know it. The hotel provides little cards with the hotel name and map, so always have a handful of these cards with you! The deluxe rooms are well furnished and comfortable. Its a reasonably priced tourist hotel so dont expect hilton-type standards! Its good value for money and the neighbourhood is nice for walks. A few cafes closeby, and nice restaurants in the side street on the left of the hotel as you exit the main door. Most staff dont speak english, but a smile with sign language can get you on your way with most things! It snowed when we were there and the hotel heating was good. Cant lower the heat but the windows can be opened for fresh air.

I would recommend strongly this Hotel for you looking for a centre point to travel for site seeing places in beijing(walking distance from The Forbiden City, tinamen square, temple of heaven, art gallery, shopping mall, banking services(ATM), pretty good Englisg speaking staff,(would recommend some phrases you note it down before you travel to china)(beijing guide). The rooms are pretty Ok would not say great,
but needs some redecor work!!! the morning breakfast buffet was quite good and economical about 40RMB(adult) and 20RMB for child. Quite informative on locations to go around by the bell boys!
would help write details fro you to show the taxi guys! 30 mins from railway stations and 45 mins from International Airport!(about 100RMB by Taxi) has a small shop to buy few stuff, coffee shop ok,if end of the day tired can get foot massage (around the business centre), Internet was really slow!!!!
Advice please carry small portable wifi connect adapter!ask fro day tour package, best rather get ripped off by private taxi guys and 3 wheelers.!! Good wishes to the helpful staff at teh front desk and bell boys!(hope the Mgt would support with better comfort stay to get their services better to excellent!

Room Tip: suite deluxe(King size bed) if with children and family.

The location is nice, but the room are small, dirty, the bed is not comfortable. The price was decent.
I was easy to reach the city center.
The taxi drivers would not stop for us to bring us anywhere on that area.
I don't think I will stay there again :(... Sorry, but I have to say it

Such a great location, What a shame the rooms are so dirty..the bed skirts had dirt rings.the carpet was disgustingly dirty. You did receive towel service and at least bathroom cleaning every day.
They had a buffet every morning for $6.
The staff was very helpful in all our request. All the buses ran across the street from the hotel. You can get to Silk Market, Pearl Market etc..Can't beat location..

Great location just outside the forbidden city. The beds were rock solid. Rooms overall quite clean. Hotel refused to order a taxi saying that the drivers would complain about coming. Very little English spoken by all at hotel. No wifi and internet always down in bar. Would think twice about goin back.

Myself and my friends stayed here last weekend for 2N. An altogether lackluster visit.

Firstly, the hotel in general was very grubby and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The wall paper was coming off our walls and I was electrocuted when I tried to remove a plug from the socket.

Secondly the location was not convenient at all...it was a good 30 minute walk to the Forbidden City and we were unable to book any taxi, we had to hail from the street. As we were not Mandarin speakers, the taxi drivers would not stop for us to bring us anywhere. Thankfully the excellent concierges helped us hail them each time. otherwise we would not have never left the hotel.

Finally the biggest issue was regarding the deposit for the room. Upon leaving I received the deposit back...little did I know that the hotel had given me counterfeit money. An absolute disgrace! I would highly recommend you avoid this hotel...I will not be recommending it to any of my friends or family.
