Simon is very helpful... The rooms is very clean and u dont need to worry about anything. Hair dryer, TV, shampoo, and even u can watch dvd in ur room if have nothing to do. I will reconmend my friend to stay there if they visit HK. It's quite convenient and the room rate is worth for the value. :-D

A fabulous location in famous Chungking Mansions, Guangdong Mansions Guest House could not have been a better location to rest my head on my first visit to Hong Kong. Simon was the best host any visitor could ask for - very polite and always available 24/7 if you had any issues or needed help. The hostel was clean, had all the necessities required for travel (all inclusive Wi-Fi, towel, shampoo, hair dryer, etc.) and while the only problem I had was the elevator going to/from the 5th floor, overall I may be able to thank this stay for my new found love of this city!

If you want to stay in Hong Kong close to everything feel secured and get a great experience from staying in meka of backpackers - Guangdong Guest House is the place to be!

Simon, the host, keeps his hostel very clean and tidy as well as secured. The building - Chungking Mansions" is famous for it's cheapest in Hong Kong hostels as well as for it's atmosphere and central location (walking distance to almost all attractions as well as subway station).

Rooms are quite small, but this is very usual for Hong Kong. Rooms have all you need, including towels, shower facilities (shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, etc), hairdryer, TV, DVD with selection of movies from Simon's collection. Room is cleaned every day + you get fresh towels.

The building of Chungking Mansions is quite bizarre, with a lot of Indian shops on the first and second floor. Don't worry, me and my girlfriend felt safe during all our stay. We returned back to the hostel quite late (11 PM) but no trouble at all. Building has security guys as well as cameras everywhere. Hostel is located on the 5th floor (there's no other hostels there), door is secured with card-lock.

Elevator can become a problem so find stairs and use them, not the cleanest place, but a very fast way to get up or down.

Overall, I would recommend you to stay at Guangdong Guest House if you are looking for a safe and budget place to stay. Good luck!

P.S. Try to look for Chungking Mansions on youtube. There's one cool 9 min video showing you the building!

We highly recommend this hostel! The rooms are super clean! The owner (Simon) has a great view about how to decorate a small room so you have everything what you need, while you don't have a lot of space. This way the room looks bigger! We had a great time in the hostel and Simon is such a nice hardworking man! He does everything to make sure you will feel at home in his hostel! The location is also really great; right in the centre of Hong Kong. It's perfectly safe in the Chungking Mansions. We also had really nice Indian food there. So don't worry about that! Good value for your money!

Don't believe people who scaremonger about how unsafe Chungking Mansions is! If you stay at the Guangdong Guest House, it's perfectly safe. The rooms are immaculately clean. They are a bit small, but more than enough and more than worth the benefits. The benefits are:-

1. A very obliging and friendly host in Simon. He is available 24hrs a day, and is worth having a chat with. He gave us his mobile number as soon as we arrived, and a very thorough tour of all the hostel's facilities.

2. Secure. All the rooms have electronic locks on the doors, as do the main entrances (there are 2 entrances to 2 separate areas of the hostel, both on the same floor).

3. Comfortable. The rooms may be a bit small, but if you're on holiday, you're not going to spend much time in the room. However, our room was ensuite (sink, shower, toilet, all very clean) and large enough for a double bed, TV, DVD player (Simon has a fairly substantial collection of DVDs that you can borrow) and side table. Our room also had a box of tissues. While we brought our own towels, Simon offered us towels as soon as we arrived. The reception area also has a kettle and a water cooler with hot and cold water. The rooms also have complentary internet and wifi.

4. Great location. Chungking Mansions is very central and right opposite an MTR station. There are also a lot of places to eat and shop in the area, and it is close to the history museum which is worth a visit. Again, don't believe it when people say it is very unsafe! There are a lot of migrants from the sub-continent and Africa, but that only makes it more interesting and we always felt safe. We returned to the hostel on average at around 10pm to 12am, and we felt perfectly safe. You have to wait a short while for the elevators (maybe around 10-15 mins), but there are also stairs which don't take too long to ascend/descend (the hostel is on the 5th floor).

Slight downsides: waiting for the elevators and the room was slightly noisy, but entirely bearable.

All in all we had a great time in Hong Kong which was made so much better by staying here. We would definitely stay here again. It was very convenient and Simon is a very friendly guy.

Simon is extremely hospitable and communicated with us via email prior to our arrival to ensure we knew how to get to the guesthouse.

The room, although small, contained everything we needed - two double beds, a/c, a fan, a tv (and a large collection of DVDs was in the hallway), and a compact bathroom. There was also a water cooler in the hallway. The room was extremely clean and worth the money. We only stayed one night here as we had a flight the next morning, however we wished we could have stayed longer. If we return to Hong Kong we will stay here again.

This hostel is in a great location as the main floor of the Mansion had many food stalls and was located on a main street with restaurants and shops. Simon explained to us how to get to the airport, and even had a map handy to show us. It was extremely easy - the bus stop was across the street, Simon told us which bus to take, and it took us directly to the airport.

I strongly recommend this hotel. Although it is classified as a hostel it is really more like a mini-hotel.
