This hotel is located is far away from Kowloon side and is relatively closer to Hong Kong Ferry terminal. The deck on the 42nd Floor is a wonderful place to enjoy Hong Kong Sky line and symphony of lights. The rooms are smaller in size but looks a bit old fashioned. The break fast buffet and restaurants are very good. The service is also good and the staff though robotic is always eager to help you. the hotel is close to MRT station and offers free shuttle to Central and Airport Express station. The swimming place and Gym are very well equipped.

Room Tip: Go for 36th to 41st Harbor view rooms

We chose this hotel because of our stay 5 years ago when its location and service were upto the mark. This time around it failed on several counts. If you are looking at a hotel which provides service, this is not the property for you.

We faced and noticed several glaring instances of complete disregard for guests. To elaborate:

(1) We booked directly based on their website package of "kids eat and stay free." That is a lie. In reality it is "child eats and stays for free." Read the fine print and double check all details/ costs before you book any package from them.

(2) Pay for cocktail for the child! Their lounge on the 41st floor epitomises sheer lack of regard for the hotel guest. We were 2 Adults and 2 Kids (both 10 or below). Because the package is supposed to include only 1 child even though it says "Kids" on their website, they stopped us from even entering the lounge. They insisted that we have to pay extra for the "cocktails etc" for the 4th person because as per them package includes only 3 persons. I had to ask them if they regularly serve cocktails to 7 year olds?

(3) Breakfast is free as part of the package across many hotels globally. So it was in our case. In many hotels you dont sign any bill and if you do, its usually done when you are exiting after your breakfast. But here stay prepared to be shoved with the bill for signing, during your breakfast, every day, by the hotel staff. They dont care if you are in the middle of your bite. The black leather folder would be placed in front of your face, promptly everyday. Now they check your room number before you enter the restaurant. There are always 2-3 persons at the entry of the restaurant. But they seem to be more interested in making sure their work gets done before time than discomforting the guests. Several guests have a bemused/ surprised look when faced with the black folder in the middle of their meal.

(4) We stayed in the hotel for almost a week. 6 out of those were in a Club room. No one bothers to share details of difference in services for the two types of rooms. For example breakfast is served till 10:30 am on 3rd floor but only till 10 am on the 41st for club rooms. You discover these details when you are rudely pointed at the lifts at 9:55 am on the 41st floor

(5) I told the Hotel's staff on the 41st floor that while we are staying for several days, we wont get time to visit the lounge again due to our schedule. They first debated for 10-15 minutes and then pointed out "Oh! Its 8 pm now. We dont serve snacks and drinks after 8 pm. Sorry!" While someone senior from their team wrote the next day they would make "an exception" for us, no one in their right mind looks forward to visiting an unwelcoming place.

I should add that, out of curiosity, we went to the Club lounge briefly on the last day of our trip. Only 3 of us visited as the wife was out shopping! The view is nice but snacks and drinks can easily be skipped.

Some other observations
(A) Breakfast remained the same for all days. Exactly the same. There is enough variety but the monotony was surprising.
(B) Club rooms are supposed to be better rooms but they are not. They are almost exact the same size as the regular room. You just get access to the lounge on 41st floor.
(C) It seems that the hotel team has been instructed not to smile at guests. Right from check-in to our departure I can clearly recollect only 2-3 instances when someone smiled.
(D) Try making it early for breakfast because if you reach around 10:10, the hotel staff will first look at their watch, give a frown, reiterate that breakfast is till 10:30 and only then escort you inside.

I should add that:
(i) The travel desk was helpful and tours booked with them were as per expectations. (ii) The hotel is well maintained.
(iii) There are several Indian restaurants walking distance from the hotel which was one of the reasons we chose the property.

The standard rooms are rather small, unless you book a suite on the executive floor. The lobby is impressive, service nice. The views are stunning into the bay and harbour specially from the rooftop and its bar & retaurant underneath. For guests from executive floor there is a free happy hour.

Room Tip: Book a room on the executive floor

The local receptionists especially the Chinese gentleman who was serving the counter on 28/06/2017 10am was terrible.

He seems to be in a bad mood which he has no issue about displaying his unhappiness at work. We were enquiring about a room extension that we have previously made but had to wait for 30mins at the counter before we can get any confirmation. The Chinese lady serving at the next station couldn't care less when we approached her for help .

It wasn't resolved until we asked a caucasion gentleman for further help which he did so without any hesitation.

Contrary, Jeff (another recept) was equally helpful and nice.

Management, you have to do better to recruit more worthy staff.
