Warwick Hotel seemed the best pick since it appears to be the unique hotel on Cheung Chau.
From the pictures, it looked new, spacey, elegant and pretty classy. Well, it isn't.

Even though it prices like a 5-star hotels (2,200HKD+ per night), it feels more like a 1-star one.

Start with the overall feeling: the website pics must have been taken 20 years ago and there must have been no renovation ever since. Very old, damaged, dirty... Then you get in the room, which is no better, with the carpets all damaged and stained, same for the sofa, the cousins, the desk... What about the bed and linens? Well, check out my pics: covered with black stains and pieces of dirt they could wash off. Nice for a romantic night!
I even had a dead moth on my night stand as a welcome gift :)
Ok, the stay now. No phone in the room (gotta run down to the counter whenever you got a question), no hairdryer... Even more surprising: no bath plug in the bathroom!!! They sold us a room with bathtub, but since they took away the bath plug, there's no way you could enjoy it! No big deal anyway: with the ridiculous pressure you got, it would take 2h to fill the tub.

Then there is the swimming pool: very nice, fairly big, with lots of inflatable toys for kids and grown ups and even a giant slide. Only problems: the place is really dirty and the water not clear and the pool closes at.... 6pm. Never seen a pool closing before 8pm until today.

Last but not least, the staff on the next morning breakfast was rude and aggressive. An old waitress yelled at my wife because she dared asking to place an order.

You guessed it by now: we'll never set foot there ever again. Except maybe if they renovate the whole place and teach basic behavioral rules to their staff.

Now that we've visited the lovely island, we know that there are LOTS of bedNbreakfast around for MUCH cheaper than the warwick.

Good thing I only booked for overnight stay in June 2015. One of the reason why I chose this over the B&B rooms is the swimming pool only to find out that the pool was not available for the whole month of June! No one told me that ( I talked to their staff at least twice before booking) and it is not also in their website.
Room carpet is dirty that I cant stand walking barefoot.

Stayed in room in 1st floor.

Room Tip: Dont get the room in 1st floor and ask for specifics

There is no denying that this is a terrible hotel! We paid about 200USD for one night. However, this was expected because we spent one night for the Cheung Chau Bun Festival. In fact, the poor hotel reviews soften the blow how bad this hotel really is

As we stepped inside the room, we could smell cigarette smoke. The fridge was leaking with water and there was hair inside! The bathroom still had bits of hair. The water in the shower would only very slowly go down the plug hole. The carpet is grubby and felt horrible to walk bare foot on. Needless to say dirty marks/dents everywhere on the walls. Please do not stay here. Only saving grace is the excellent view of the ocean and beach. But you can get that view outside the hotel

Why did we stay in this hotel? Because this is the only hotel we could find and didn't think much of the B&Bs on offer. However, after spending one day in Cheung Chau we came across a nice looking B&B which we should have stayed instead. Website www.ibnb.com.hk. They were charging 150USD for the Bun Festival night and would be cheaper on "normal" weekends. They have several sites around the island

Back to the hotel, it really is a wasted opportunity and depressing that a hotel in a prime location is not showing it's true potential. In need of Gordon Ramsay and the Hotel Hell team

I think some of the reviewers are a bit harsh about this place considering the price. It's not fancy, but It was only about $100 USD including breakfast for two and it's on the beach. It is only a short walk out of the busy touristy area of town, yet seems very quiet. The balcony of our room overlooked the ocean and had a wonderful view. You can have your breakfast in the ocean view restaurant or have it delivered to your room for no extra charge and have it on the balcony. The management was very nice and said they are planning an upgrade. Cheung Chau is touristy, but genuinely warm, with fun, casual outdoor restaurants. The local tradition is very Buddhist and Taoist and there is an annual "bun festival" with a pastry with a Chinese character on it that means "peace." This is usually around the time of Buddha's birthday in April/May and is centered near the lovely Pak Tai temple.
