My wife and I recently dined at Sole Mio on a Sunday night in May 2017. We were looking for a casual Italian dinner and Sole Mio's name came recommended on TripAdvisor and several of the other food blogs that we were browsing.
We were staying at the Admiralty area and so Sole Mio (just off the mid-levels escalators) was not difficult to access. From Central MTR, it's about 12-15 minutes along the mid-levels escalators - you just need to know where to get off (i.e. along Elgin Street) and it's on the upper ground floor, easily accessible by elevator.
On the Sunday night that we visited, there was a big family of about 10 guests, as well as another couple dining - so it was actually a fairly quiet evening at Sole Mio.
The menu is extensive and we decided on 3 dishes - an appetizer (Calamari Fritti, which was served with lemon mayo and a spicy tomato sauce), a pasta (Sole Mio Linguine, which was served with a king prawn) and a pizza (Parmese, which was a tomato-base pizza topped with parma ham).
What was a nice gesture was that some of their dishes (including the Sole Mio Linguine and Parmese) incorporated a donation to certain Hong Kong charities. I believe this was a HK$8 donation. So in a sense you were doing good while enjoying a nice Italian dinner - very thoughtful.
The food took a little while to arrive even though the other tables had already been served. It didn't bother us much but we can imagine that the wait might be even longer if the restaurant was crowded. Service-wise, the staff were generally friendly but not intrusive. We later learned during bill payment that they were locals, with Nepalese descent.
All in all, this was a great choice for a casual Italian dinner. The dinner for 2 cost approximately US$50-55 without drinks. It wasn't cheap but for the quality of food, we would certainly recommend Sole Mio if you're craving Italian.
