“Even 4 Star is better.”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

Stayed for 2 nights. Was given a double bed despite requested for King Size when booking months before. They expect husband and wife to sleep separate bed?
Furnishing was dated and old. Even some 3 Star looks better than them. They were renovating on a saturday thunderstorm afternoon!!! Families and gamblers will be sleeping or resting during this period and obviously on a rainy days. Don't they have some EQ or initiative to stop? My wife have to call a few times before stopping. Its a definite no return to stay for me!

The decor of the hotel looks really dated while the hotel pool is really tiny. Toiletries were not given in small handy bottles but were instead dispensed through large bottles that were actually caged which prevents swiping. Can't a hotel that charges such prices afford to give their guests some complimentary take home toiletries? Overall a rather shocking experience especially for a new 5 star hotel. Would highly discourage people from staying here.

I was a bit disappointed with this hotel as I had stay at the Hard Rock on Sentosa so was expecting much the same from my room. The room is starting to look a little tired, the shower especially looked old and I questioned how clean it was. I would recommend this hotel, it was likely my own expectations that let me down. Service was very good, check in prompt staff very friendly.

First, the pros:
Close to Universal Studios and the other attractions on Sentosa.

The cons:
As others have mentioned, the amenities are really poor for a five star hotel. If you're lucky enough to get a non-smoking room, which we did, you're still left with a musty smelling room. And I agree with another reviewer who said that a shampoo/shower gel pump is just ridiculous! (the ones in our room didn't work either, and we had to ask for new ones).

Whilst some of the staff were helpful, we were very unimpressed with Gary who was behind the concierge desk. When we approached the desk, he was just stamping some passes (I'm guessing they were the monorail or theme park passes) and did not bother to acknowledge us in any way .. and it wasn't that we were standing a good way away from the desk. We stood there for about 3 minutes .. another concierge came by while we were waiting to ask him a question, he still did not acknowledge us, answered the other guy's question (all in mandarin), and went back to what he was doing after! Wow - that pretty much left me speechless! We left right after and went to get some help from Reception.

So in other words, stay at Hotel Michael only if you do not expect any kind of customer service, and if being close to Universal Studios and the other attractions are your main priority. Also, be prepared to deal with housekeeping and other staff (including waiters at Chinois by Susur Lee) that do not understand English. My brother, who was in a different room to me, rang housekeeping to request for some soap, instead of the shower gel that was provided. After trying very hard to explain what 'soap' was, housekeeping finally delivered some 'liquid hand SOAP'!

if visiting USS is in your top priority then this hotel is perfect for you.

Stayed in Deluxe room which was spacious but without bathtub.
Swimming pool and gym were really small.
Limited number of non smoking rooms int he hotel, so if you have very low or zero tolerance to cigarettes smoke stink, do confirm a non smoking room upon reservation.

I was assigned into a smoking room and I had zero tolerance to cigarettes smell. The receptionist that I called said that the hotel was fully booked therefore there's no other room for me to change. She said that she'd asked the housekeeping team to place an ionizer in the room.
After 2-3 hours the ionizer seemed to have worked, the room was then smelled of chemical instead of cigarettes stink.

The Italian restaurant, Palio, on the other hand, was perfect.
Great wine and excellent pizza.
Will definitely dine in Palio again.

Room Tip: Book and confirm non smoking rooms upon reservation.

As an overnight stopover Hotel Michael was a great choice for us. The room was spacious with beautifully comfortable King Bed, and large luxurious bathroom. The desk staff were very welcoming and quick to assist with any requests such as late checkout, baggage storage - even went out of their way to reassign our room from twin to king. As a 5 star hotel you could reasonably expect luxurious bathroom amenities including bathrobe and slippers. These are not provided at Hotel Michael. A free shuttle is available from the Hotel into Orchard Road - you just need to organize yourself around the schedule. There are plenty of places to eat on the Island. We tried Din Tai Fung which was fabulous. Fresh, hot, and delicious dumplings and plenty of other selections. We could easily spend longer on Sentosa without having to leave the Island.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Plaza.

i stayed on march 5-7, 2012. my friends and i booked 2 rooms with connecting door. first impression for this hotel is the bed is sooooo comfortable. my wife and i really love the bed. For the twin bed room, the bed is big. i think it can fit for 2 people each bed. the location is so near to Universal Studios Singapore. The amenities is so nice, it looks so expensive. the shower is nice.

Definitely will come back
