I’ve been to this restaurant two or three times back in the day, and keep returning - I don’t really know why. It has absolutely no atmosphere, the toilet facilities (shared with the rest of the market) are indescribable but the food is always good and well worth the price, and once I find a place that I like - particularly an Indian I can trust - I go back.
The mem always has the fish head curry and this year it was no disappointment, although she did mention that the gravy was slightly bitter for her taste. I had the mutton vindaloo with buttered naan and it was just as good as it has always been, but there again the yellow dahl was slightly watery; you can’t have everything!
I can’t fault the waiters - they are busy rather than bad - but it is a very popular spot with the locals and therefore there can be delays in serving at peak time. I normally just park off there with my iPad and a jug of Tiger to wait while the mem goes shopping, and then eat round about 3 o’clock when it is quite quiet.
Oh, and yes: you get a chance to eat with your hands off a banana leaf instead of a plate - very retro....
