“Good but not memorable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

First of all for the money I paid (I stayed at the Club Room) there is really nothing much to boost about albeit the service was exemplary. The check-in was ok (they checked me in at the lobby reception not sure why I was not escorted to check in at the Club Floor which they should) and the staffs on a general note are very courteous, helpful and professional.

I booked the Club Room marina view but upon entering the room realised that it was ocean facing. They claimed that for Club Floor there is no distinction between marina or ocean facing like the cheaper room types so be sure to specify what you want during booking if marina facing is what you desire. For me specifically I was staying the night on Chinese New Year eve so it was important for me to have marina view to watch the fire works. Anyway there was no problem at all I was shiftly moved to the room I wanted so I gave them the credit for that.

Honestly I was very much looking forward to thier Club Lounge as the highlight of my stay but there was just something left to be desired. The Lounge has nice cosy atmosphere, but gave you the feeling that somehow it needs a face lift to be on par with many of the 5* hotels around. Moreover the lounge actually faces the boring city rather the marina. The afternoon tea was quite sterile too as I expected more hot food and desert choices. The evening cocktails was alright, with nice white wine (Cloudy Bay) and champagne. The good thing about booking the Club Room is you also get guranteed 6 pm late check-out.

The room is beautifully appointed but nothing spectacular for the price I paid, a bit on the smaller side but well maintained. You can tell that the toilet is of a 90's design, with a minuscule bathtub (it is easily the smallest I have seen for the past 10 years of my hotel stay) and a shower cubicle so tiny you can hardly maneuver your hands to wash your back.

The only marvelous thing about this hotel is the swimming pool - absolutely gorgeous! It is a must try even if you just wanna lay down on the sun bed. The pool staffs were attentive and will help you to get a sun bed when you enter the swimming pool.

Overall is this hotel worth the price tag? I would say not really, but if service is the main thing you are after then you shall not be disappointed.

Loved this hotel, the people and the food. Everything was simply perfect. The staff remembered our names and would always make us feel very important.

We stayed over holiday weekend for 3 nights so rooms were heavily booked up. We stayed in a club room as a result but the extras were well worth the cost. The room was average size, well appointed and with great views. The breakfast and food were great. The icing on the cake was the drinks and nibbles in the club room early evening. After a days sightseeing there is nothing better than sipping champagne and fantastic nibbles in a leisurely and comfortable environment when you know you are not picking up the cost. Ok you've paid for it in the room rate but still worthwhile

There are many good things about this hotel. The location is great - above the Marina Square shopping centre which connects underground to Suntec City and Raffles. It's also convenient for the CBD, the old colonial district and the metro. Views are also fabulous. Best of all is the pool which is a real plus if travelling with children.

The rooms are pleasant and well equipped but a bit dated despite a makeover and some of the public areas are crying out for refurbishment.

On the down side, Melt (the restaurant serving breakfast and less expensive meals) is very dated and, although the choice was good, the quality of the breakfast buffet left room for improvement. The service provided by the concierge was also disappointing - often very busy and questionable local knowledge. My chief gripe was the charge made for internet - I don't mind paying something but the charge here is S$30 a day which is, quite simply, far too much.

Would I recommend the hotel or stay here again? I would certainly think about it for the views, pool and location.

Room Tip: Pay extra and get a room with a view.

Yes, you read that correctly...buffet. I am not a buffet fan. Certainly not for dinner. And since I am living in Asia right now, all 5 star hotels have a large breakfast buffet spread included with the room (unlike the States). And to top it off, I'm a foodie!

So for me to start this review with a nod to the Mandarin Oriental's buffet seems unlike me. But the buffet is really well done. Fresh, great variety, high quality. Particularly dinner (though it'll cost you S$68-S$78). Breakfast is also good though service needs more staff.

Location at Marina Square is great. You can jump right onto the MRT through the mall. You can walk around the area to Esplanade, Shoppes at Marina Sands, Raffles City, Chijmes.

Gym is good. Pool area is beautiful with great service. In general, service here is fantastic: check-in, check-out, room service, restaurant service, bell hops.

Rooms are quiet, beds are comfortable, everything works, water pressure and temperature great. People have mentioned that the rooms seem dated. They must be used to the new explosion of China 5 star hotels. If you are used to traveling in the States or Europe - you'll ask "wait, what's wrong with this room?".

Only issue I have is the price of food - though they do make up for it partially with excellent presentation and quality. Room service of a garden salad (no protein) with a plate of fruit was something like S$60. Seems a bit excessive.

Would highly recommend. I would also recommend the Pan Pacific which is in the same area. Mandarin Oriental has a more intimate feel, better buffet. Pan Pacific is more modern/open feel with a great Indian restaurant (though equally pricey). I have stayed at both several times.

This hotel is located in the Marina Bay area close to the Flyer observation wheel but with few bars and restaurants in walkable distance. Not a problem however as Singapore's taxis are plentiful, well regulated and cheap - a S$10 (£5/$8) ride will take you to Orchard Road's shops or downtown restaurants.
The service throughout this hotel is outstanding - from Concierge to Housekeeping and Poolside it is consistently high.

The MO is a 20 minute taxi ride from Singapore Airport and we used it twice recently as a stopover between long flights. A 6 00pm late check out costs around S$ 190 but includes use of the Club lounge on the 19th Floor.

I have stayed in few better hotels than this.

Room Tip: The extra for a marina bay view makes a pleasant addition at reasonable cost.
