“Great restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2012

The standard room was on special offer of £100 per night plus taxes of 17%, very cheap for this city. The location is the best along with Fairmont, Swiss Hotel and Raffles. The Chijmes area across the road is excellent with good bars and good value eating places. The hugely popular Bugis Street area is there too and as this is so popular with young locals, the food is cheap and plentiful.
The Hotel room was tired and small and no balcony. But the hotel restaurant was excellent and as they had a special offer for hotel guests - why don't all hotel restaurants do this? - with a 20% discount and a free glass of wine included, the S$45 per person net cost for a sumptuous buffet was outstanding. Oysters, mussels and large prawns, then the normal array of chinese, malay and indian dishes but also a european roast beef and vegetables option! Had to eat there two nights running!
Alternatively, you could sleep across the road at Raffles for S$900 a night - your choice!

The rooms are average, try to avoid the old wing. However breakfast buffet has a very good selection and gym is outstanding. Location is great! I would come back anytime!

(Superior Twin-bedded room) I paid SGD$205 / Aust$163 per nt. The view from my room on the 13th floor was amazing facing Bras Basah Road and looking over Raffles City Shopping Centre, Suntec, Theatres by the Bay, St. Andrews Cathedral and the CBD. The room was a good size, quiet, but the bed was rather firm. These rooms seem to have had some renovation done since my last stay in 2005, eg. newer carpets and flat screen TV. The bathroom was small and a little old, but functional. Housekeeping were very prompt in making up the room each day. Reception staff were very friendly, efficient and proactive. The Hotel is in a superb location for tourists planning on sightseeing.

the rooms in the new wing are lovely! Thee food from room service is some of the best in Singapore hotels. I stayed for a week to look at moving our company business there.
Strange service, I booked a premier room in the new wing with a "harbour view" according the website. On arrival I was "upgraded" to a club room (without club privileges) but now harbour view. The city view was nice, but when I asked reception they said no rooms had harbour views just bay glimpses anyways, very strange.........
There's a Nespresso coffee machine in the room, its S$1 to have a coffee as they charge for the pods.
The pool area and bars are great. The housekeeping was fantastic with the room spotless every day and the Molton Brown products re-stocked each day. The internet was S$20 per day, why do hotels still charge this?
I had my business shirts ironed, instead of hanging them they were left on the bed to get creased....
I usually stay at the Swisshotel across the street and this was way better despite the few things. For such a clean new room it's great value.

Located diagonally across from City Hall MRT, this is a well-situated hotel for the leisure or business traveler. It's also near the Singapore Art Museum and the cluster of restaurants and bars along Queen Street as well as across from Chijmes (more restaurants and bars).

The hotel has added a new wing so you may want to request to stay in that area. The Chinese restaurant in the hotel has really good dim sum!

Room Tip: Ask for the new wing

I've stayed here several times before and then they had to renovate the hotel. Now we're back with them and we went like "wow", when we saw the lobby. They've expanded it to occupy the vacant lot next to it before so now you can enter the lobby after crossing from Raffles Hotel or Raffles City. And it's brighter, airier and has more aesthetic lighting. But I think, the renovation was mostly done for the public areas as the guest rooms were pretty much the same.

Singapore is an asian foodie heaven where you can eat at any time of the day and have choices from hawker centers to higher end restaurants. I've ordered room service here and food is pretty good and service pretty fast.

You can also walk to several tourist areas and if needed, the MRT at Raffles City is next door.
