if you're staying here, you should be renting by the hour. Got to be crazy to stay the night... Hotel 81 is for one thing, and one thing only...

My usual Hotel was fully booked so I chose this particular hotel simply for its location.

The hotel is five minutes from Bugis MRT and a few minutes from Suntec City.

The tiny reception cannot cope at times and I found myself in a queue out to the street when I arrived. The receptionists with the exception of one gentlemen were monosylabic and really didn't want to talk other than amongst themselves.

The room was clean, I had a room with a window so that helped. I can imagine the ones without having a tomb effect. There was a large bathroom and everything worked.

I'm not sure I would stay here again as the price whilst understandable for the location is simply too high.

In a very expensive city, this is one of the cheap hotels - reasonable and comfortable. I stayed here almost a week in June and July with a friend. We were not expecting too much (since it's been said that it is somewhat the cheap motel type) but it's quite reasonable compared to staying in a backpacker's hostel, where you have to share a room and bathroom with the rest of the guests. The room is quite small yet the bed fits just right. The room has a tv, a small closet, a water boiler, some stash of coffee, tea and bottled water. I just don't like the mirrors all over one wall. It might be there to make the space look bigger (but i dare not think of what purpose it serves for others). Same goes for the little toilet and bath, small but decent enough since they have enough soap, towels and toiletries. They have free wi-fi access and complimentary breakfast. The room may not be superb, but the location is EXCELLENT! I love it that everything seems to be just within walking distance - the malls, money changers, convenience stores (7-eleven is just beside it), bugis street and the different museums. There's also a nice coffee shop a few steps away from the hotel which serves really good food for 5 sgd. yum!

Room Tip: If you're going to any Hotel 81 location, I guess Bugis is the best choice.

This sleazy hotel has paper thin door so you really can hear every detail of sex-noises from the other rooms.
Trying not to thing about what happened in the bed you're in, but since the mattress is covered in plastic for a reason it's hard not to.

The room has no windows. For an extra 10$ you get "internet". Totally unusable, took over 5 minutes to load gmail.

After a horrible nights sleep, the paper thin doors allows you to enjoy the cleaning crews radion on full volume.

My relatives came over to sg. Book 2 room onsite for a night stay. Price is damn exp at S$16x++.Room is very dirty. Bedsheet with stains. Reach at the hotel, had been serve by attitude problem reception. Forbid me from going up to my relatives. Even give me only 5 mins to get back downstair. Was thinking of extending for another night, we book another 2 room 4 star hotel near the SOTA @ S$17x+. Even much better.

I can't say a single nice thing about this horrible place, except that the location is pretty good. It's not clean--found long black hairs in the shower/toilet. The staff are nasty and they seem to have some of the few in Singapore who are English-challenged. The hotel chain itself is crummy--made a complaint that was never even responded to. Staying in a room without windows is like being in a tomb. If I could give it minus-5 stars I would. This place stinks. And it's far from cheap. The bed is covered in a single sheet sitting on top of a rubber mattress cover that makes the bed intolerable: do they think you are going to wet yourself? I was told by a cab driver this place is used for "quickies." Can't say I saw any evidence of that, but it is a repulsive hotel.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.

I paid Expedia £365 for four nights for a standard room at this ghastly hotel. What they don't tell you on the Expedia website is that all their standard rooms have no windows, therefore the light and noisy air conditioning, which you cannot adjust, are on all the time. Only the deluxe rooms have windows! Nor do they make it clear that the bathroom is in fact a wet room with the shower close to the toilet!. At least the sink was big.
There was no wardrobe or chest of drawers, just four coat hooks, so it was pointless unpacking. The room accommodated a double bed but otherwise there was not enough room to swing the proverbial cat.The flat screen TV was not aligned with the bed but stuck right in the corner. Their was no table or desk, except for a small bedside table with coffee and tea making facilities. There was not even a chair - a pouffe was the substitute.
The saving grace was that the room was clean
Grossly overpriced, even for Singapore, If anything, you were paying for location, as it is faily central with Raffles Hotel around the corner.
