Disclaimer: the picture that Tripadvisor is currently showing (12/2016) is from the owner's other, much better hostel, which I have already review and rated 5stars, period. In fact, if you look it up on Booking.com, you'll find that it gives you the location of the second hostel, not this one. It is strange, though I' ve been given the understanding that it is Booking's fault (go figure...)

This hostel is located further away from Pucon's downtown. It is still within walking from downtown, around 10-15 minutes by foot, with a huge supermarket 1 block away and several stores near it. It has beautiful private rooms with views to the beautiful garden and, of course, Villarrica Volcano. Nice rural atmosphere. Facilities are quite acceptable and well-kept, plus the owner and his family are very, very friendly people and a priceless source of information: German knows everything you want to know regarding your stay in Pucon, and many things that you dont know you want to know, yet.

Cons: besides the distance from downtown, staff was not so friendly and helpful as the staff in the other hostel, located in Brasil Street and Araucho, which made my stay less enjoyable. Standard rooms are average.

All in all, nice place to stay.

Room tip: Do stay in the rooms located in the garden. Do Not stay in the ones on the first floor (which of course are the cheapest)

A clean and good, comfortable hostel. Good bed. warm blankets for winter. Big kitchen with all the basics; microwave, hob, fridge. Two wood burning stoves which were lit at night by owner. No heating in bedrooms. Shower OK; not powerful

We stayed at the new Donde German on the city center.

Pros - absolutely beautiful place, spotlessly clean, Cecilia was very very sweet, lovely garden and pool, large well equipped kitchen, great central location and a bonus - the cutest house cat!

Cons - at the beginning we stayed at a beautiful room right by the garden. Then we wanted to extend our stay for two more nights, and we were told that it's available. At the last minute don Herman said the room was booked and gave us only one alternative - larger but much worse and more expansive room!! With 4 beds which we didn't need, no curtains, low ceiling (kept bumping our heads) and very noisy (right on the street). We had to wake up very early in the morning so we didn't want to start looking for a new place, but it was very disappointing after the amazing first two nights and Don Herman wasn't flexible at all.

This review relates to the original Donde German hostel, which is just outside of the main town. It's really convenient for Tur Bus and Lider supermarket, and actually, we came from JAC bus and it wasn't far from there either. It's about 15 minutes to walk.

The room was nice and clean, comfy and quiet the whole time we were there. It was a smart room (double private bathroom) with nice bedding etc. You can tell the property is looked after. Hence the big sheet of rules you are given as you walk in - but we had no problem with this. Wifi only worked if you sat on the side of the room nearest the main building and was off for a whole day when the bill hadn't been paid - but this clearly got resolved in the evening.

The kitchen and lounge were well equipped and clean as well which was great.

Only things I'd complain about - one evening it was unseasonably cold and we were told we couldn't turn the heater on so were cold at night, and although booking.com said they accept credit cards, when we tried to pay with one we got told at first no, then it was yes but with a 19% tax (which they calculated at US$60 on a US$180 Bill!!). Eventually we paid in cash...

I stayed for 3 nights. First, the location is good. It's a little far from the city center but you can walk to the center in 10 mimutes because Pucon is small town. There are two big supermarkets near the hostel and Tur Bus Station too. It's quite at night time. Second, room and bathroom are amazing. Bed is comfortable and room is very clean. Bathroom is clean and the facilities are good. Third, common kitchen and living room are wonderful. There is a large flat TV in the living room. Kitchen has wonderful facilities. There is a beautiful garden in the hostel. Last, staff are great. The owner lady can't speak English well and my Spanish is poor. However, we could communicate each other and had great time.
