We stayed here three times during our recent travel trip to Ecuador and it was fabulous to keep coming 'home' in between our various trips to somewhere so comfortable and friendly. The room was enormous, the bed very comfortable, the decor of the whole place amazing. We loved the view from the rooftop terrace. Unfortunately we made the mistake of only dining once in the hotel as we had been recommended lots of restaurants to try in the old town. Believe me, the restaurant in the Casa Gangotena is the only one worth eating in and I wished we'd stayed put. The food is superb and no more expensive than many others.
The General Manager took the trouble to come and chat to us several times during our stay and many of the staff called us by name which is always nice - particularly on return visits. The location is great for exploring the old town. Although some of the guidebooks say it's not safe to be out at night we had no problems - the old town has been massively cleaned up over the last few years and there are plenty of policemen around to provide reassurance. Why stay in the new town in a concrete block when you can experience part of the history of Ecuador in this beautiful hotel? I would highly recommend it.
