Cotahuasi is about 12 hours by semi-comfortable overnight bus from Arequipa and is well worth the trip. The canyon, which is the deepest in the world, is stunning and the area does not have too many tourists. There are countless trekking and kayaking opportunities. In addition, there are many small villages, ruins and sights nearby. The tourist office in the town of Cotahuasi is very helpful. There are not many hotel or restaurant options and getting around can be a bit tricky. However, if you have the time and are up for an adventure, it is worth the effort.
