My husband & I traveled to Peru in mid-May 2018 and Sun Gate Tours did a great job organizing everything. Jonathan was our sales rep, Flora was our guide at Machu Pichu and Doris stepped in to take care of the details in country when Robert got reassigned. All were terrific. Couple of points:
- The tour of the Sacred Valley was very interesting but it turns into a very long day if you are going back to Cusco after the tour - particularly after you make the rounds dropping people at their various hotels in the valley. Practically everyone on the tour stayed in the Sacred Valley overnight and took the train to Machu Pichu in the morning. Since the Sacred Valley is closer to Machu Pichu than Cusco, this makes sense. Talk to your sales guide about this option.
- We had planned to hike the short Inca trail , but my husband got ill from something he ate so we were unable to make the hike. Doris was able to reach Flora who met us at the train station in Aquas Caliente. Flora contacted a doctor who came to our hotel and gave my husband intravenous antibiotics which allowed him to go to Machu Pichu in the morning. She really saved the day. Flora gave us a great tour of Machu Pichu as well.
- The Amazon Basin was quite interesting. We stayed at Posada Amazonas on Jonathan's recommendation. We stayed for three nights but many others stayed for two nights - that would have been enough for us. The best day was out on the lake fishing for piranha .
