We spent a total of three nights recently at the Hotel El Balcon in Cusco. While the staff are super accomodating and really do try, our room left a lot to be desired. The first room (#9) was a musty moldy and tiny cave. Our friends were much luckier and had a more spacious room. The second stay had us in a better room but not without its problems. This second floor room seemed nice at first but it turned out that the toilet was not vented properly. Our room stank of sewer gas after the first flush. To the point where you really didn't want to breathe...not a great situation at 11,000 feet above sea level.
Th breakfasts were good and timely and as mentioned above, the staff is attentive. However, they need to improve the places that one sleeps...that's the point of a hotel after all ! Oh, great views for sundowners!
