We stayed in Miraflores with its lovely well kept gardens, shops and restaurants.

Good hotels in the area and you feel safe walking around Miraflores.

Catch the Metropolitano buses to get into the city.

We chose a B&B in Miraflores, because we were told it is a safe area, and so we felt, even in the evenings. There are also lots of nice parks and restaurants.

We flew to Lima, Peru mainly as a point of entry to travel around Peru, but we found Miraflores a lovely place to stay. The people are very friendly and helpful. It is very clean and scenic down by the ocean. We felt very safe here, never hassled by people. Had the opportunity to go tandem paragliding and loved the experience. Would’ve liked to spend more time here.

Thank Marilyn S

Nice walking parks and good variety of restaurants. Though the noice level is just alarming at night and cars drive very fast and not stopping where they should.. cars first, people second..

Miraflores is the area of Lima that travel agents send their clients to. There are good reasons for this: it’s generally safe to walk around; there are some good international-standard hotels, lots of cheap places for food and a few decent restaurants, and there’s a busy (if slightly cruisy and tiny and a little dowdy) urban Park named after JFK, where people promenade in the evening. But there’s not much else. Lima is an immensely big and gridlocked city, with no metro, so you need to take a cab from Miraflores to get to almost anything that’s interesting - and cabs are a free-for-all of amateur drivers none of whom seem to know their way around their own city. So make sure you have Googlemaps on your phone to show them the way, and be prepared for a long journey.

Half an hour from Miraflores (if you’re lucky) is the Playa Major, the centre of historic Lima. That’s where the great colonial buildings are, and galleries, and culture and shops. Yes it’s a bit edgy, especially at night, but it’s surely the right place to stay.
