Upon arrival had to climb in an alley to find hotel. With email confirmation and details printed for 2 rooms, we only received one balcony room even though our reservation was for 2 balcony rooms. Had to barter for a first floor room and received zero compensations. Also received a “warning for loud noise” at 7:53 p.m. by another patron. Would not recommend this stay, if returning to the Sacred Valley. Would stay at other accommodations in Ollantayambo to see Machu Picchu.

The Intitambo Hotel is one of the best places to stay in all of Ollanta. It's located just a few short blocks up from the main plaza, nestled in the quiet, old Incan streets (no car noise!!). The beds are comfy, rooms are clean, and the complimentary breakfast can't be beat—plus, free tea and coffee all day! The staff is incredibly attentive, and is willing to arrange taxis, tours, and other services. I travel through the Sacred Valley a lot, and Intitambo Hotel is always our favorite place to stay.

We booked this to stay just one night, in between a day tour of the Sacred Valley and starting the Inca Trail. Since it was just a quick one night stay, I put a lot less thought into this stay, and ended up being very pleased with our stay! We had the three rooms off the rooftop patio, which was awesome. There were great views from the patio, and the rooms were clean and modernized. The shower pressure was great. All for less than $50 a night -this was the cheapest place we stayed in Peru and it exceeded our expectations.

Also - for anyone starting the Inca Trail, staying in Ollantaytambo the night before is the way to go. If you stay in Cusco the bus picks you up between 3 and 3:30 in the morning, whereas our pickup was at 6:45 am. I felt a little bad that the bus had to make an extra stop, but it turns out that they were also stopping in the same area to pick up the porters. We also loved the town of Ollantaytambo too.

Don't judge this hotel from the outside. The inside is fantastic and it is located at the base of the ruins. Keep in mind that when you get outside of Cusco, there is a language barrier. Be patient and download Google translator. They gave us a boxed breakfast for the next day since we were leaving really early for our Machu Picchu hike. Keep in mind they ONLY accept cash. We were not aware of that. Great value!

Big room, best hot shower, Big breakfast, beautiful upstairs open patio with great view of the ruins. Short walking distance to center of village for restaurants or to walk to the ruins - reception girls spoke excellent english and organised a tuktuk taxi to take us and our luggage to the train station.
