“Working Holiday - Fantastic”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

Recommend Paradise Inn. Clean apartments serviced daily. Some in need of restoration however comfortable, beach front accommodation within easy walk to main town, shops, restaurants, markets, etc. A huge common room and deck area make your stay more comfortable with full bar (on an honour system) for your convenience. Highly recommended for group bookings. Staff and management are extemely welcoming and accommodated every request - even really difficult ones. Not 5 star resort living but comfortable 3 star living. Honeymoon suite available too.

My husband and I stayed here for a night on our way to Aitutaki and on the way back from it. We chose it because it was a good price, and close to town with good reviews. We wanted to be able to go to the grocery store and make our own food.

The owner is such a friendly and personable guy. We enjoyed talking to him and his helpfulness and great attitude. It made a difference.

The rooms are basic and a little weathered, but so is all of the Cook Islands so we got used to that. It would have been nice to have enough cutlery though, some of the kitchens have random pieces missing and it's not quite so standard.

There is no on site restaurant so you will be cooking your own meals, which was fine for us.

It can be very hot here during the day and there is no ac. We rented some electric bikes and checked out the island.

Make sure you cover up or wear sunscreen the sun is strong here!

We did the arial flight over the island, the plane was noisy but very beautiful and a good deal.

We also went to Island Night at Drums of Our Forefathers, it was all right. We had mostly young kids performing, I heard some of the other dancers canceled that night.

Rarotonga is beautiful island for a cheaper price, and much much different than Fiji or French Polynesia. It's great everyone is friendly and they speak English, it is just a smaller country with less tourism. So you may find it a better deal than French Polynesia, but you can't really compare the two, it's apples and oranges really.

Thanks for being so friendly and introducing us to Cook Islander culture. :)

My husband and I stayed there in Nov 2010 with another couple. We had the Manea room which had it's own balcony and overlooked the road. It's in a fantastic location, easy walking distance to town and a bus stop right outside.
The owners were new and very nice people.
Our rooms were very clean and well equipped, we had a gas cooker in one of the rooms but preferred to use the bbq on site and sit and look out over the water while we ate.
The only downer was that there was no air conditioning in either of the rooms which made for a very long hot night. Between the roosters next door and no air con, we didn't get much sleep at all. But the owners tell me they plan on getting air con in all rooms.

All in all it was an enjoyable stay

I worried about choosing this hotel after reading other reviews but was surprised to see the hotel had new management. We were greeted by the hotel's new manager Mr. Marsters. He and his new wife and baby had just settled in the prior week. He gave us a quick tour of the grounds as we waited for housekeeping to get our loft ready. Apparently it was the new manager's apartment but he gave it to us for our stay since we'd bookded that room specifically. The loft was by far the best room in the house! We had a small apartment with a balcony over the common area with a perfect view of the reef. We saw whales swim by on November 12th, they are usually gone from the area at this time but it was AMAZING to see them swim so close. I loved the proximity of this hotel to town and great bars and places to eat. We were easily able to walk to the market on Saturday morning and avoided the cost of a rental car for our 2 day stay. There was an honesty phone and bar, I did not take advantage of the bar because there are 2 stores very close to this hotel. Of the staff I met, the housekeeper, the hotel manager and his wife, they were all such lovely people. If you are looking for a place close to the nightlife and action but not a place for swimming, snorkeling or romance, this is a nice place to stay. The only thing I can say bad about it is that the roosters might interupt your sleep!

The Inn is run by a couple who have just taken over management. It is very relaxing and friendly. The rooms are self contained and you help yourself from the honor bar. The deck overlooking the ocean is a great place to sit and it is close to the shops. I loved it there and when I go back next year I will be staying there again. Price is good too.

This is nothing fancy, but it is the best location on the island - you can easily walk to Avarua town and it has amazing views. The room size is great - loft bedroom and a small kitchenette with a fridge and two burner stove, kettle, dishes, etc. Guests also have access to a large communal kitchen/dining room with an honour bar, tables and chairs, library, and TV sitting area. I went as part of a large group and we held potluck dinners here most nights. The manager joined us most nights and became part of the family. We immediately felt right at home. The beach out front is not for swimming, but you are on a pretty small island with lots of beach choices, so it wasn't a problem for our beach loving family.

We visited Paradise Inn earlier this year and really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was basic but comfortable, definitely a good choice for those on a budget. The location was superb - lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The Inn has a large lounge area, with 'honesty bar' which was great to come back to for a drink in the evening. It was a lovely place to chat and meet other travellers.
It was sometimes a wee bit noisy in the morning - thanks to the cockerels next door! - but this kind of added to the place's charm. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, providing us with lots of advice on good snorkelling spots and activities.
