Lovely, touching sculpture. A crying angel. On the island dedicate to the victims of the Afghan war. Nice, but nothing special.

This is in the Island of Tears. Basically Guardian Angel looks over the main monument.

Read about the history of this, it will touch your heart. When you are there, take a moment to remember the suffering those soldiers and their families went through.

Very peaceful !

Designed to make you think and the design works. Loss of life, war and the thoughts of the families left behind. If in Minsk and near the Island of Tears go along and spend a solum moment or two thinking in a location designed exactly for that purpose.

The Isle of Tears is on the lake next to the lower old town. There is a poignant memorial commemorating the USSR's war dead in the lengthy conflict in Afghanistan (1979-88: the USSR's Vietnam?). The weeping guardian faces the memorial. Doctor Who fans will be abit creeped out by it - and can be reassured that the memorial is locked after dark!

Situated in the old town. Lovely spot with places to sit. Nice restaurants nearby. Definitely worth a visit.
