“Huge, central, Soviet-style square”

Reviewed April 4, 2018

Oktyabrskaya Square is in downtown Minsk. Impressive dimensions. Have been used for political reasons. Important government buildings at its sides.

Well, this is an impressive building. The area in front of the building is huge.

I wont say you put this in your diary as a place to visit, rather when you are exploring the city, just pass by. There is nothing much to do other than admiring the architecture. Plenty of restaurants, bars near by.

I visited in December, they put a huge Christmas Tree in front of this place with all festive lighting, just amazing.

Good photo opportunities because there are so few tourists walking around here. A vast empty square. Interesting contrast of buildings with the massive modern offices school and the neoclassical building on the side with columns and a frieze of statues.

The are bars and restaurants near by where you can stop for a while. Worth a visit if in the area, but maybe not worth a specific trip.

No, it's not Tiannanmen but also very impressive and almost always empty, as if the people are afraid of walking on it. But then again, this city is so otherwordly quiet....
