“Worst hotel in Kiev by far”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

Stayed here last October.

Rooms are TINY, showers are even smaller, they are basically 1x1m boxes with shower over toilet. The water doesn't go anywhere and stays on the floor for hours, so if you want to go and put your clothes on and then revisit the bathroom you will stand in 20 cm of water on the floor.

The shower water itself is so disgusting that there are no words to describe it - I basically had to step over all my senses to take a shower there - it's just rank, feels like the water is taken directly from the river. Water from the tap was OK for brushing teeth, etc.

The walls are so thin that you can hear people going to the toilet - believe me, it's not something you want to experience.

Restaurant staff was very rude, the girl who served us has heard something wrong and brought us too much stuff, after we told her she got quite furious and told us that she will now have to pay for the extra order... welcome back to USSR. I need to mention that this place is very popular with very large men wearing sport suits.

I also don't quite understand the "Art" part from the name of this prison boat - there is nothing arty about it.

Dear Guest.
Thank You for Your review. It is good to receive some critical comments from time to time. Such reviews will never let us to stop improving, as we do care about service we provide.
I completely agree with You that the room You have been staying in is not the best we can offer. We know about the situation with water flowing in some rooms of this category and sound isolation, more over we are already in process of creating the solution.
I would strongly recommend staying in the classical rooms (or higher categories); they are much more comfortable with the minimal difference in price.
You are writing about the quality of water and it is necessary to mention that it is taken from the borehole more than 100 miter depth. Despite the fact that specific flavor is a distinctive feature of the natural sources of water and due to such comments like Yours, we have already installed extra filters. You may even read in the other reviews (the review in Russian from March 31,2012) that the quality of water has been improved.
We are really very sorry that we cannot investigate, who was the waiter described in Your review, as since October 2011 (the period of Your staying) a lot was changed especially in the restaurant management and waiting staff. Some were fired, the rest are trained.
It is said that You saw a lot of guests in the sport suits. In October 2011 we had several huge groups of sportsmen from all over the world staying, so they might be described in Your review.
I am eagerly looking for the chance to show You all hotel facilities and explain the meaning of “art” in the name of hotel.
That is a pity that we could not have the chance to help You with some nuances described above as You have informed about it 6 months later. I would be grateful if You could write me (tkolyadyuk@bakkara-hotel.com.ua) more details (period of staying, Your name …) concerning the described accommodation to investigate everything better.
Despite the reason, I am very sorry that in Your case we have not succeeded with reaching our main goal, to make the guest feel like at home and exceed guests’ expectation. But I believe You will give us the second chance to prove You that Art-hotel “Bakkara” is a very good choice in Kiev.
With best regards,
Guest Relation Manager

Stayed one night for short business trip. Hotel is a boat! Looks like a nice refurbished river cruiser. Big, friendly staff. Good deal approx 100 eu per night. Even less if you book twin room w/o breakfast.. Breakfast buffet fine. Rooms nice and clean and art deco feel. Free wifi...Would definitely stay again for sure. First time in Kiev do cannot make much comparison

Dear Guest,
Thank You very much that You found time to provide us with a review after staying. You have mentioned that the hotel looks like the refurbished river cruiser, I would like to add that Bakkara is rather new hotel (opened in October 2009), which was planed and built as the hotel from the very beginning. It is great that You liked the breakfast, and admitted our art-design. Our big and friendly staff is looking forward for Your next visit.

When I first booked this hotel, it was rather unclear that it was a permanently docked ship. There are several floors, a bar, and hotel. It is about a 10 minute walk to the train station. The room was very nice, with full picture windows and a balcony. Service was excellent - in fact because my flight was leaving so early, they even packed a bag with breakfast!

A very nice place to stay, and definitely worth a return visit!

Room Tip: There is a string of lights on the shoreward side which can be distracting at night.

Dear Guest.
Thank You very much for the comments, which You left after staying at “Bakkara”. We are happy to know that You enjoyed the full picture window with balcony and the room itself. You have mentioned that it takes up to 10 minutes to get to the nearest metro station, for the future staying I would recommend to use the shuttle bus service, its schedule is given while checking in. Still walking through the park zone in spring is even more relaxing. The most pleasant thing of Your review is that You liked the service, as we are all here doing our best to let the guest fill at the hotel like at home. We are waiting for Your future visit, Kiev is really amazing in spring.

When looking for the hotel in Kiev we searched for the very large room, great view and elegant interior because we needed it for my wedding photosession. I stayed with my family in one of the best rooms in Bakkara - lux with the river view. It was perfect. We had a large living room with a panoramic view on the old city of Kiev (including direct view on Lavra), large terrase, bedroom, bathroom with jakuzzi and guest toilet. The living room was so spacious that it could fit the my family (we were 4), my future husband, 2 photographers, video operator, 2 bridemaids and 2 best men. And we were comfortable there during morning photosession. To tell the truth it's the first time I see such a large hotel room for such price. The personnel was exteremely helpful and let us stay 2 hours after the check-out to finish. They haven't also charged us extra for shooting as other hotels do (Premier Palace and Intercontinental have special price lists for that). We didn't try the dinner in the restaurant as it was closed for the private party. But the breakfast (included in the price) was delicious! I would certainly recommend it anyone.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2011

Having read the different reviews, we weren't sure what to expect - a great experience or a miserable one. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We had asked for our room to be upgraded from a standard room to a river view room, and are glad we did this. Having what they call a 'city-view' means that you look out onto some woodland and the parking area, whereas the river view is very pleasant, with a small balcony with chair and table (why not 2 chairs for a double-occupancy room??) where you can look out over the river. We found the beds very comfortable, and the heating worked very well. Lots of hot water and a quite powerful shower. Yes, the water went all over the floor, but put the bathmat outside the bathroom door and it's no problem. The walls were very thin, and our second night we could hear next door; I wouldn't like to be there in the middle of the tourist season for this reason.

Breakfast was excellent; self service and a great variety of food. Being self service was an advantage, because the restaurant waiter service in the evening, while efficient, was probably the slowest and most expressionless we've ever experienced. Also, the food seemed to be rather overpriced for what it was.

Location wasn't bad; there was a hotel shuttle bus to the local Metro station, and then it was easy to get into town from there via the very regular and cheap trains. Make sure you pick up one of the Kiev guide books in the foyer of the hotel, as you will definitely need the Metro system map giving the English equivalent of the stations (if you don't speak Russian or Ukrainian, that is.)

Room Tip: Go for the river view; try to get an end room as then you only have potentially noisy neighbours on...

I spent in this hotel couple of weekends. Very good hotel, I will recommend this hotel to everybody. Rooms is quite good and all rooms have balcony what is very nice.

Advantages:
1) Price
2) There is Strip bar in hotel :D
3) Best breakfast what you can get in hotel, I have never seen such quantity of dishes and quality is very good!!!

Disadvantages:
1) All time you need pay in bar, you can't simply ask to add bill to your account, this is really annoying.
2) Beds is not so good. (Double room)
3) Poor sound isolation in rooms, you can hear everything what happens in neighbor room

I didn't have any problem with location because it is not far from metro and taxi is very cheap in Kiev.

I'll definitely return to this hotel and actually I already booked a room for upcoming weekends.

Our stay here was excellent. We had one of the suites facing the river (definately recomended) and had no complaints about this property or the staff (who were excellent). The out of the way location at the Hydropark lets you have a quiet place in the city away from the noise.. The feeling of being on a riverboat cruise and view of the river were great! I'm sure in time the riverfront area will be completed and that it will look great. I would stay here again if my travels take me to Kyiv again.
