This national park is called the Rainforest. It is about 45 minutes away from Panama City. What a beautiful park! We stayed in the middle of it at the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. It had so many birds, sloths, owls, and we even saw the largest rodent in the world! We took nature walks on the trails and saw beautiful trees, butterflys, exotic birds, heard howler monkeys, and saw beautiful flowers. You must keep covered. I suggest wearing good hiking shoes or strong sneakers, lots of repellent, preferably with deet, and a large brimmed hat. It is in the high 90s every day and very humid. Also have good sunglasses and carry a lot of water! It's a beautiful place! Go on the Pipeline Road if you get a chance. Go early to see more birds.

We walked all trails, seeing all kinds of birds and small animals, even one monkey near the base of the tower. Also heard the howler monkeys in the distance. we took many pictures here and the hummingbirds were awesome.

A great way to see the natural world against one of mankind's greatest engineering feats. The inlets around the canal and Charges river provide greta opportunities for spotting monkeys, birds and crocodiles, whilst huge container ships pass on the canal. Also very interesting to see the indigenous Indian village and their simple life style.

This wide, unpaved, generally level road cuts through a jungle filled with birds. But I highly recommend hiring a guide, because the birds can be difficult to spot and even harder to identify, especially if you are new to birding in the tropics. Due to the challenges of spotting birds in the thick foliage, this is a great place for serious birders, but more casual birders will see plenty of tropical birds much more easily by birding in town, the ammo dump or the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. Our guide, Gonzalo Horno, did an excellent job finding and identifying birds and knows an impressive number of calls. Gonzalohorno@hotmail.com
