Description: Best place for casual dining in Panama City, Panama...located on the banks of the canal , always a great view, plenty of friendly expats and locals

This is the quintessential Panama City experience. Come around 5-6pm. Take in a sunset, watch the large ships exiting the canal into the Pacific and take in the best view of the Las Americas Bridge.

This is also where many of the yachts which travel to Colombia and the various islands leaves from. While the service is slow and the food is nothing fancy it is good and what you would expect in Panama. The prices are reasonable. $10 for a jug of sangria. It's a good place to come for drinks and appies with good friends. There is also a path that goes along the water and you can walk down to bio museum.

The Balboa Y.C. is a mainstay hideout for former Zonians and U.S. ex-pats. A great bar, surrounded by TV screens, it can be a super place to watch football games and other sporting events while at the bar or a nearby table.

Situated on a promenade along the Panama Canal entrance, there are views of the "Puente las Americas" and an anchorage for yachts and working vessels of the canal company.

The menu is limited and I have enjoyed a hamburger made with Angus beef with French Fries in times past. However, I recently ordered a seafood combination plate and it took a long time to prepare. When served by a waitress who should find alternative employment, the fish was overcooked as were the fried plantains, the shrimp limp and tasteless, and the one-half the clams served had not been steamed open. A totally forgettable dining experience.

Paying the bill became a hassle with a surly, uneducated woman, who was unable to add 2+2, even with a hand-held calculator. Having had some delightful times there, I will stick with the hamburger plate.

Went on walk with girlfriend and dogs. Stopped for a beer and an appetizer. Quick service. English and Spanish. Get to see boats go through canal.

Our 1st night in Panama we took a 5 minute walk from the Country Inn hotel, Amador, for dinner at Balboa. Dining on the deck offered a nice view of the western approach to the canal. Had some difficulty ordering dinner and staff did not understand the terms "gluten free or no gluten." So my wife tried the usually safe alternative of ordering a salad with no croutons but a mix up in the kitchen wasn't able to accommodate that request either. Lots of cats prowled around the deck looking for handouts and while we like cats, some of the other diners weren't so comfortable. Our meals were about average, cost was reasonable, but we didn't choose to have another meal at this location.

Have been there several times on our way to Tobago Island. Area is kind of rundown and parking is atrocious. We've never eaten there so can't speak to that.
