Most Residence Inns have a very good, but standardized corporate design.
You can count on a good bed, a large screen TV and a decent breakfast in the morning. That's why Residence Inns are my wife and my first choice when taking car trips through the US.
But, some Inns are better than others. This one in Auburn is among the best.
1) It's fully redesigned to the newest Marriott standards,
2) The lighting is excellent...rare for a lot of hotels.
3) The local operator has added amenities, such as extra shelves and full length mirrors that go beyond the cookie-cutter, basic design.
Add to that the fact that the manager and his entire staff go totally out of their way to make guests feel comfortable. There is always the personal touch from a caring team at every single interface between guests and staff. (I.e. The kitchen staff comes around to offer more food to late breakfast diners, housekeeping is totally efficient...with perfect care of rooms, enough towels, and "extras" like serving real food during their cookout night.)
The Auburn location also offers the perfect location, mid-Maine, to stay for an extended period of time and take day trips to other locations. You unpack once and then venture from this central point.
I totally recommend this Inn.
