A little hard to find, but very good. I had a suite: bedroom, kitchen, sitting room with tv, bathroom all to myself. All the fixings for breakfast were in the fridge or cabinet, with table set for breakfast, a DIY affair, meaning no common breakfast with other guests, and no set time to eat. Very good (hard mattress) bed. Two blocks away from main drag, restaurants, the common and walkable to attractions, including Emily Dickinson Museum. When parking, I suggest backing in to driveway, as no room to turn around. Emily is B&B's owner. Good value, quiet neighborhood.

Emily's is charming but you have to be prepared to take it for what it is. Rather than a hotel, mily's feels like a kind Pioneer Valley hippy has opened her quaint home to you and doesn't think you need much privacy. Even the reservation process, which required that we correspond with Emily by actual mail (!) was a throw back. But, when you are visiting Amherst, isn't that exactly what you are looking for? A group of friends and I rented the whole back house at Emily's, which is a great choice for large groups (the house has two private bedrooms and an upstairs floor with several beds). The house is like a tree house for adults and has a beautiful patio on the side. The inn is in very close walking distance to the town of Amherst's main street but is on a quiet, residential road. Emily and her husband are often afoot, and in and out of the rooms and back house pretty much as they please. As other reviewers have pointed out, the breakfast part of the bed and breakfast leaves something to be desired but Amherst has such great breakfast options (go to the Black Sheep) that you really don't need it. If you have a sense of humor, by all means stay at Emily's. You will have a great time.

We (three Amherst College alums) stayed in the carriage house and it was just so cute. Great wide open space, with lots of windows and natural lighting. There are 3 beds (one double and two singles) and plenty of seating space and a desk if you need to work. The breakfast is continental style and they take only cash, but they are up front about this completely! I thought it was amazing to have a semi-private (and roomy!) space, and to be walking distance from town!

Emily's is a great place to stay. However, if you're into slick boutique hotels or you want the heavy on the chintz, hostess in a frilly apron making fresh pancakes every morning type of New England B&B experience, than perhaps Emily's is not the place for you. It's more a home away from home. There's no fancy cooked breakfast but the owners keep the fridge full of the essentials: continental breakfast treats, cereal, jam, butter, milk, orange juice. A local newspaper appears from time to time as well. The advantage of this arrangement is you get to make a simple breakfast and sit around the table in your pyjamas fully relaxed in preparation for the day ahead. The rooms are spotlessly clean, there's plenty of hot water and there's enough kitchen equipment to make a meal at any other time of the day. It's really self catering with support. My friend and I stayed in the Emily Suite and we had a spacious bedroom with two beds (a double and a single), a large wardrobe (closet) and a large chest of drawers (dresser). All the furniture was antique, but not 'precious'. The other room was a kitchen/sitting room with a extra single bed in the corner which can accommodate one more guest. The bathroom is fully equipped and has a good shower. The owner is approachable and very helpful. We thought it was excellent value for money. Emily's is situated near the town centre but set well enough back from it to be a quiet place to stay. I loved it there and would recommend it highly. I want to go back...soon.

If you enjoy spiders in your bathroom, mosquitoes and ants in your room, old mattresses, rock-hard 20-year-old pillows, blankets with rips in them, dust bunnies everywhere, stale supermarket-bought muffins masquerading as "breakfast", then by all means stay at this B&B! On the positive side, the owner is very nice, the garden is lovely and it's steps away from Amherst attractions.
