On our first trip ever to Guatemala, my wife & I stayed here based upon the advice of other family members who'd stayed here before, having had a pleasant experience with Casa Capuchinas.
The general appearance of the place was rustic as expected, but well accommodated our needs. The room we had (I believe it was Room #1, and I highly recommend it), was a second floor unit at the front of the walled compound. Having only an empty unit below us, we only had to deal with noises from the street outside, which was minimal at best (They told us we could have switched rooms at any time if it were a problem). In fact, the only time when noise was ever an issue was when the old convent across the street had been rented out for a party for a night, and music blasted our eardrums well into the wee hours of the morning. But everyone we came with that were staying within a 4 block radius told us it affected them as well, so it wasn't really a problem with Casa Capuchinas as much as it was the staff of the convent being terrible neighbors.
The staff at Casa Capuchinas, notably Porfirio the manager and the early morning cook, were fantastic in doing whatever it took to meet & exceed our needs. At one point, a family member took ill (allergies or a cold), and the cook concocted a homemade soup for her that hit the spot. Then there was the time we were going to put on a memorable feast for our local friends in the area, and we needed help in finding & purchasing food in bulk. Incredibly, after a long overnight shift that ended in the morning, Porfirio offered to be our guide and take us to where he buys the groceries for the hotel, which included his negotiated rate!
Our overall experience with Casa Capuchinas was great, and would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Antigua for the first time.
