“Roman Arches, Egyptian Columns and Sphinx”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

The Peristil is an amazingly impressive open air pavillion that brings you right back to the days of Julius Caesar - I mean, the Diocletian. Extremely magnetic, it is very welcoming - you want to sit down and people watch, and it's filled with locals and tourists alike from morning til night. Brides and Grooms promenade here for their weddings into the cathedral, there are tour guides and many international visitors, and just young college students meeting for a coffee date / rendezvous. Don't miss it!.

“Heart of the Palace of Diocletian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2013

If anywhere is Split is known as the heart of the palace of Diocletian, then certainly it is the 'Peristyle'. Located centrally within the palace walls, the 'peristyle' is the one remaining building of the palace. Although it has been changed (note the medieval stone masonry between the ancient columns which were shipped from Egypt), the additions and renovations that have occurred for centuries, the 'peristyle' still conjures images of the palace's glory days. Usually crowed with tourists during the summer months due to daily 'viewings of the emperor and empress (actors portraying them) a spectacular evening in July when the annual Split festival comes to the 'peristyle' with all the pomp of ancient Rome. Additionally, for the delight of tourists there are always Roman guards who will gladly have their picture taken with you. Simply ask any local "where is the 'peristyle'?" and chances are they will point you in the right direction.
