My husband and I didn't want to stay inside Diocletian's Palace because we thought it would be too noisy and crowded, even at this time of year, so we chose Hotel Marul based upon other Trip Advisor reviews that the location was close but quiet. It is. It is perfect. It is situated literally a 5 minute walk from the Palace and the seafront, but a world away in terms of NO hustle and bustle, totally quiet daytime and at night for sleeping.
The location is also just off a really good shopping road with a Zara's and lots of other shops. Also only 1 "block" away from very pretty Croatian National Theater. There are lots of moderately priced restaurants behind the Theater and Zara's area if it's raining and you don't want to walk to dinner inside the Palace.
The location is perfect if you want really close access to everything, but don't want to be in the middle of tourist "traffic" and activity.
Our room was very nice. Simple but good size. Mini fridge, which I always appreciate. Good size bathroom. Good size closet and shelf space for clothes.
A very nice b'fast was included. There's a small restaurant for dinner but we didn't use it.
The two young men at reception--Josib and Lenko--were extremely helpful showing us on the town map the best routes to everything; recommending restaurants; offering to book excursions. They were a really helpful resource and so friendly and accommodating and spoke perfect English
We found Hotel Marul perfect for our needs.

We had a very nice stay in this hotel, clean and very convenient to the walled city which made it easy to walk to wherever we needed to go. Their breakfast was simple but met our needs. The only frustration was all the angled ceilings and my husband kept banging his head-not fun especially at night when you are navigating in the dark.

Right near the centre of Split (Diocletian's Palace) but in a very quiet area away from traffic. Excellent accomodation, wifi, breakfast and extremely good evening restaurant. Staff very attentive but not intrusive. This hotel made our holiday. Thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic location with super-easy access to Split Old Town. I'm sure that there are more luxurious hotels in Split, but Marul was a great choice for our family. We had two rooms, both of which were comfortable and clean.

The back door to the hotel is steps away from the historical center of Split and an easy walk to everywhere in town.

Breakfast was included in what we felt was a very fair rate given the high season (and we were able to save 5% by paying in cash -- Euro, Kuna or Dollar with latest exchange rates and no commission).

What really stood out however is the staff. From communicating in advance of our stay, to booking a car from the airport and ongoing friendly and helpful advice. We even had the driver take us to the dock for our ferry to Hvar (which would not have been an easy walk with luggage and navigating the many piers).

Absolutely recommend this hotel.
