We stayed here for one week on our first visit to Split. We definitely made the right choice in choosing the Cornaro. We had a junior suite which consisted of a bedroom, sitting room and bathroom all of which were spacious, immaculately clean, tastefully furnished and practical. There is plenty of storage space and a kettle and coffee maker.

The location is perfect, yards away from the Golden Gate entrance to the Old Town and five minutes walk to the waterfront. The Art Gallery is also nearby and there is a small park area with trees and seats just opposite the Golden Gate.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel and this was excellent. There is the usual range of Juice, fruits, cereals, yoghourts etc. together with hot dishes. You can also get pancakes and poached eggs from the a la carte menu at no extra cost. If you are a bit more adventurous you can sample the Diocletian breakfast which has local dishes. The breakfast room we used was spacious and kept in very good order by the very pleasant and accommodating staff.

A few practical tips that may help future guests: if you go up to the 6th floor terrace soon after arrival you get a stunning view of the city which helps you get your bearings. There are two entrances to the hotel. You may get dropped at the back door but with the help of a member of staff we realised that your taxi can actually pick you up from an entrance behind the main reception. Around the corner from the main Reception are computers and a book exchange. Bedroom doors open inwards. Reception can control your air con if you ask them. If you are tired and weary on your first night and want a simple meal the place on the left opposite the front door is good.

Finally, we could not fault any of the staff. The Reception gave us useful information on local sights and were unfailingly professional and friendly.

We spent 2 nights here and had a wonderful stay . Situated at the old city walls this hotel is a haven of peace and tranquillity . We stayed in the newer area of the hotel with a large modern room with city views. The staff were most helpful and the breakfast absolutely superb.
We would certainly return and give the Cornaro a high recommendation.

Room Tip: Room with city view

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of September, before joining a Backroads bike trip. The hotel is very comfortable, has a great breakfast and we found the staff to be very helpful. My husband's bag did not show up on arrival and only showed up 3 days later because of the hard work of those at the hotel. The only issue with our room was I wish we had a fan - it was an inside room and felt stuffy on occassion - and I am sure we would have received one if I had asked!
The staff receives many questions about the area from demanding clients but they persist in being helpful and informative.
The location is also perfect - just outside the palace area and also adjacent to the western section of the city which is full of great restaurants. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Some of our travelers when in their suites which were very nice and roomy. Our regular room was very nice and had adequate space.

We enjoyed our stay at the Cornaro Hotel. We had a bit of a hiccup in the beginning as the hotel put us in the older part of the hotel which was far more claustrophobic, smaller and not what we had expected when we booked a Junior Suite. We had called ahead to ensure a room that would also be comfortable for my wife who is pregnant and we were disappointed that the older rooms were so small and that there was no walk-in shower.

The next morning, I spoke with a member of the staff who was kind enough to arrange for us to move to another room, this time on the newer part of the hotel.

Moving to the newer part of the hotel might as well have been like moving to a totally different hotel. We loved it! The rooms were large and beautiful, the views from the water were perfect and it made for a far more enjoyable experience.

The concierge was friendly, the breakfast buffet was diverse enough to satisfy most palates and the location near the old town couldn't have been better.

We would certainly recommend Cornaro Hotel but we would also caution those to speak with the staff to select a room in the newer part of the hotel.

Dear Ryan F,

thank You for taking the time to review Your stay with us, we were delighted to hear You overall enjoyed Your stay. The specified category rooms are the same in the northern and southern part of the hotel, however, city view rooms are a separate category, both by orientation and price. High level of service and quality of rooms and other public areas of the hotel are the same, as the hotel is entirely new. Many guests prefer the northern part of the hotel as being more peaceful and intimate, but of course, this is a matter of personal preference and we’re always trying to meet all of the guest’s preferences. We look forward to seeing You on Your next trip to Split!

Kind regards,

We had quite a mixed experience at the Cornaro. The location is fantastic - a few minutes walk from everywhere. The hotel itself is three buildings joined together at various points, with two separate entrances, receptions and restaurants - this was confusing and it did seem to impact on the service delivery.

Most of the staff were really bright and helpful but, as we found with Croatia itself, a minority were surly and slow to respond - perhaps at the end of a long, hard tourist season not everyone was sorry to see it over.

The hotel facilities were partially closed - they seemed to think that their remaining guests (the hotel was maybe 30% occupied) wouldn't need to use the wine bar or the rooftop bar at the advertised time.

The breakfast, of which the hotel staff appeared to be very proud, was disappointing in terms of food quality and preparation - everything cooked to order was just topped up with salt to give it some flavour. The breads and coffee were dreadful.

The restaurants themselves are unwelcoming and bland - they call it a boutique hotel; it isn't, it's just new and badly designed. There are so many places within 2 minutes walk offering fantastic food and drinks I wouldn't bother with the hotel breakfast if I went back.

The room was OK, but because of the restrictions of the buildings the view is into other people's rooms in the other buildings rather than of the fabulous town of Split or the waterfront. That's another thing - it claims to be on the waterfront but it's at least 200 yards away. Maybe it was on the waterfront 300 years ago.

The location is really all this hotel to offer, but it is worth staying here just for that. The rest is all a bit average.

Dear sgncfc,

Thank you for the time taken to post your valuable review.
We are happy to hear you enjoyed our location.
Cornaro Hotel**** is not a waterfront but centrally located hotel, as it is stated on our website and the two buildings are well connected.
The roof top bar is weather permitted. At last, thank you for your personal experience of our 5* breakfast and our design.
If the way ever brings you back in Split, we would be happy to accommodate you again!

Kind regards,
Cornaro Hotel Guest Relations
