“Where cell phones go to die”

Imagine a place where you sit on a grapevine draped porch overlooking a fertile, lush valley with your 14 and 16 year olds. Then imagine the three of you quietly painting, watercolors and oil, for hours -- no cell phones, no computers -- just father and daughters enjoying the peaceful serenity offered by a property carved out of the valley hillside by one family over 400 hundred years, generation after generation after generation. If nothing else, Villa Kameni Dvori and its wonderful host family propel its guests into a deep sense of old world family tradition and bonding that is contagious. You start the day with a family breakfast and end it with a family dinner, all made from local ingredients with local traditions by your host family. Yes, you can be connected to your devices but you (and even your teenagers) will very quickly chose not to be -- instead opting to bike through the valley, visiting local artists, craftsman, farmers, and vintners. A lot of vacations offer compelling family memories, but our visit to Villa Kameni Dvori gave my family a deeper appreciation of what our family means to us.

Just returned from a 6 day stay here as part of a small tour group gadventures. Where does one start!. From the moment Ivo our host picked us up at the Airport and took me and 3 other guests to the farmhouse to having an drink before been shown to our rooms. Our rooms were great. Clean comfy lovely view over the valley. Meeting the other members of our group at the fab swimming pool really broke the ice. Dinner was great. Everything we ate on our 6 days was grown in the grounds of the house. Wine is produced there as is olive oil and liqueurs. A very relaxing setting. Ivo and Katerina our hosts could not do enough for us. As well as meeting extended family members having croatian cooking lesson with grandma in the kitchen. Olive oil tasting wine tasting so much produce to taste Ivo was our driver for the few days. If people wanted to go hiking or to go to Cavtat he arranged it. Nothing was too much trouble. He also was excellent in relating to the history of Croatia and the surrounding area. We also did a bike ride around the area of Lovorno.A truly relaxing holiday. Eating is a big part of the Mujio family. and we tasted everything that was produced in the grounds of the farm. from grapes to fresh figs to herbs to vegtables. A very warm welcome was extended to all 6 of us and we were made feel part of the family. A wonderful croatian experience.

“Excellent Villa and Fabulous Hosts - one visit will never be enough!”

My friends and I had the pleasure of staying in the Villa for almost a week. Through the whole booking process everyone was extremely helpful. From the moment we arrived the family were fantastic hosts cooking a traditional meal on arrival on their lovely terrace above the taverna. We loved the villa which was beautiful inside and out with exceptional facilities and a fabulous pool area. We ate at the taverna several times and enjoyed many bottles of their lovely wine and liqueurs. We also enjoyed lots of their fresh produce including fantastic figs straight from their garden. They also organised and drove us on a number of excursions which were great value too.. We felt extremely sad to leave and say goodbye to such a lovely place and family. We hope to return there and see them soon. Really can't rate the place and people highly enough.

We have find ourselves in this Villa by accident and we were so lucky to meet this lovely family.
The food is excellent and all homemade stuff is worth trying and buying.
350 year of house history was explained and complimented by an amazing view to the valley.

Thank you very much for your hospitality!

You cannot go wrong in renting this particular villa. The villa itself is all around just lovely (spotlessly clean and spacious), but it is the family who owns it who make it so special. They are the most gracious hosts you will ever meet and manage to not only anticipate your needs/requests, but to exceed your expectations. We were a group of 8 adults and each one of us felt the same about our good luck in finding the villa; stayed for a week, ate extremely well, enjoyed the gorgeous scenery, and were assisted every step of the way by the family in doing all the sightseeing and relaxing we were looking for. This was a truly memorable week and I will definitely do it again.

“Dubrovnik's Hidden Treasure”

KAMENI DVORI Taverna and B&B

If you are in Dubrovnik, this lush countryside escape is a must visit at least for a lunch or dinner. If you would like to take a peek into a true, unpretentious and traditional Croatian family and their life, Kameni Dvori (Stone Mansion) is not to be missed. If you are looking for quiet country retreat off the beaten track to spend a few days or weeks with your family or friends while in the Dubrovnik-Konavle area, Kameni Dvori is the place for you. If you are looking for an active vacation that includes hiking, walking and biking, then Kameni Dvori is also the place for you. And, if you are looking to explore numerous boutique family-run wineries producing exceptional wines and olive oils, then Dubrovnik’s backcountry Konavle valley is the place, and Kameni Dvori should be your base.

Only about 20 miles/35km from busy Dubrovnik, Kameni Dvori is a family run B&B that comes like breath of fresh air from crowded cities, ships and restaurants. Here, you can be alone with your family or friends and enjoy every minute of your time in a serene setting lush with olive and walnut trees, vineyards and an impressive organic vegetable garden from which you pick your own daily harvest to be prepared in Kameni Dvori’s kitchen. The retreat can accommodate up to 13 persons in 5 rooms. And yes, there is a swimming pool on the property overlooking the fertile valley of Konavle. You may also choose from several mountain bikes at Kameni Dvori for your use free of charge to explore the entire valley on your own. There are plenty of hiking trails around the retreat to neighboring hills as well; some of them quite challenging.

Upon your arrival, owner Mrs. Katarina Mujo (pron: moo-yo) and her mother-in-law Stane Mujo greet you in their traditional Croatian national costumes. Katarina speaks very good English, and you will have no problem communicating with her. She will take you to their family cellar and immediately offer you homemade brandies, liquors or wine, excellent home-cured prosciutto and other locally prepared treats. When you relax a bit, she will take you to their vegetable garden where you can choose all the veggies you would like with your meals, including a variety of lettuces, vine-ripened tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini and other enticing greens. Bear in mind that everything here is grown organically and no pesticides are used.
You will meet the entire family: 4 kids ages 2-14 years, two turtles, a cat and the rest of the family. Some of the kids and some members of the family might join you in the dining room during the meal, making you feel like a part of the family.

Preparation of the food at Kameni Dvori is a spectacle in of itself. Katarina and Stane will prepare the food in front of you in the old traditional Croatian way “ispod peke” (under an iron bell). Meat, potatoes, bell peppers and other veggies are placed in a pan, covered with an iron bell then placed on an open fire in a large brick oven before you. If you wish, you can participate in preparation of the food as well. And yes, Katarina and Stane are excellent chefs and will prepare any kind of food to your tastes, from red meats and potatoes to fresh fish and will respect any dietary restrictions you might have.

Once the meal is ready to serve, the entire pan is taken from the fire and placed in the middle of a large rustic wooden table. The food looks, smells and tastes “out of this world.” This delicious meal is accompanied with robust finely aged homemade wines from the family’s own vineyard. The hosts are very generous in this respect. You can buy and take with you some of their wines, jams, preserves and wonderful homemade olive oils.

All in all, I am convinced that this will be probably the highlight of your trip. It was of mine.

“Amazing family owned Villa with fantastic views and the most wonderful owners!!!!”
Reviewed July 5, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This place was absolutely amazing on all accounts! It is a family owned business and they treat you like one of the family. They can help plan your excursions, drive you anywhere you need to go and cook the most amazing food they make fresh daily. They make their own wine, brandy, vegetables and more. I cannot speak highly enough about how wonderful this place is to visit. We had a group of eight and had everything we needed. I actually got engaged over their lookout !
Do yourself a favor and book this villa! It is so much better than being in a traditional hotel and just another tourist. This gives you the true Dubrovnik experience. Our whole party loved it and can't thank the family enough for such a great stay!
P.S - if you're a foodie or just really love great food, this is the place to be!
