Just think, this city is unchanged since being built in the 13th century. We enjoyed exploring the smaller streets and appreciating the architecture. There are LOTS of steps if you choose to to fully see the city. We bought the 3 day Dubrovnik Card, but didn’t think it was worth it as several of the sites weren’t open. Visiting in early April it wasn’t very crowded and there were no cruise ships.

You must see it, simply words can not describe this place. You must see it during the day and the night to feel the atmosphere.

Walking into this old town is like entering a giant museum, everything here is historical and maintained in a very good state. Definitely worth a visit.

We really liked the old city at day on night all the time
It is not very big but so picturesque. The fountains the buildings the churches the walls all around. We spent few days we took a tour to get some explanation about the city and we loved this place

We suggest cruising off season. Shore excursions to charming old medieval towns like Dubrovnik won't be as crowded

Dubrovnik is a large and more touristy version of Kotor (Montenegro), our other cruise port. Venetian in influence, less dramatic mountains, but with a nicely renovated old town.

As of this writing, shops that accepted euros charged more. So we skipped postcards (I already have postcards from the Danube agricultural countryside).

The old town has nice flat stones and are easier in the feet. Steps up/down are very steep.... but you can find charming patios off the sides

Enter a few churches (the Jesuit church of st. Ignatius looks like "Petra" on the outside). Follow the path of the war of 1991, see the damage before and the reconstruction after.

Best enjoyed with a cup of ice cream while meandering.
