Very enjoyable stay at the Uvala. Rooms and public areas clean and bright. Very helpful and friendly staff could not do enough for us. Food was very good with lots of choice and all buffet style. Only grumble would be the small outside pool area which did not catch much sun and was limited for sunbed space. The location of the hotel was lovely as you had easy access to Lapad promenade and peninsular. Bus stop outside hotel gave 15 minute ride to Dubrovnik old town for 10 Kuna (tickets on sale in hotel). Would recommend 4th floor front rooms for splendid views across the inlet.

Room Tip: Top floor sea view room worth a small supplement.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Uvala. We had a room at the front on the 4th floor with a good size balcony and view overlooking the bay, which was certainly worth the extra. The room and bathroom/shower were of a good size and standard, and were kept very clean. We enjoyed the food - dinner is a buffet with a wide selection of regional dishes, and while a few may not have been to our taste, there was such a wide choice that we could always select a very good meal and at €10 it was excellent value. Breakfast is a good buffet selection. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We used the indoor pool, which was not as warm as most hotel indoor pools but one adjusts once in the water. The outdoor pool was too cold for us to use. There is a bus outside the hotel every 20 minutes to the old town (15 minute journey) - we bought the 7-day Dubrovnik card, good value as it includes 20 bus trips and entry fees to many (but not all) attractions in Dubrovnik. We used the free wi-fi (on the ground floor) - to use the hotel's computer would not have been free.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front and top have the best view.

Other reviews tell you about the excellent position, beautiful views (have a front sea view room on the 4th floor) and helpful staff. I agree with all of this. The facilities in the hotel are good and the spa treatments excellent. The room itself is fine but the bathrooms need some attention. The shower door rail on the bath make access difficult, the towels are small and hard and some very old and the hairdryer is the tube type and useless. To be fair the hotel does have a few normal good hairdryers and I was given one when I asked. My advice is take your own. The food (buffet breakfast and dinner) has a reasonable variety but the hot food isn't and is rather tasteless. Is it 4*? Probably yes for Croatia and the views and location make up for everything else.

Room Tip: Top floor at front have good sea views and excellent balconys. Use the beach at Hotel Splendid.

The hotel is rather nice. Staff was very friendly. Room was ok but nothing special. The open pool was super - you can swim and look to the sea and mountains. Restaurant was rather good too. Flavours and other greens at the terraсe was beautiful. The free jacuzzi was old and not really nice. The good one is in the spa zone, but it's not free - you've got to pay for this. The massage and spa was nice. Good choice for the summer vacations at sea, but the price was high comparing to another hotels near this one.

Room Tip: Take the high floor

This hotel is a really basic hotel despite being rated as a 4 star hotel. It should be rated 2star. Apart from the check- in male receptionist, the staff were very nice. The check in receptionist was very unfriendly and unhelpful. The shower door was broken and the hotel was unable to get anybody to fix it while we were there. We reported this serveral times. The bathroom was very small. The bedroom was grubby and had a stale smell. There was always an overpowering smell of disinfectant in the corridors upstairs. We visited a family member in another hotel in the same area which was rated 3 star and a lot cheaper than ours and it was a much nicer hotel. I wouldn't stay in the hotel again.

Room Tip: Probably rooms at the front of the hotel with sea views.

I wanted a quiet hotel, and I got it, pretty much. On a bus line into the city [which was mad with tourists -- 2 ships w/ 3-400 passengers each arrived the day I left; it's too small an old city for such numbers!] -- the bus ran every 15 minutes; buy your tickets at the hotel reception desk; the ride itself was a great way to see the city and its inhabitants -- the first time I took it, it filled quickly with locals going in for a dedication of a statue of Mary in one of the churches devoted to her, with a blessing of the old port as part of the ceremony [I learned all that from someone I asked for an explanation of the 'parade' outside the church].

Hotel room was roomy, with 2 double beds, ample closets and bathroom, a tv [only a couple of channels in languages I could understand], and a balcony overlooking the restaurant, pool, and main street [with buses, taxis, ...]. I had followed another reviewer's advice and booked a bay-view room. I was entertained one evening, sitting on the balcony, by the local folk music band performing that night for diners -- fine, as I happen to like this music, tho they were not such good musicians. Others might prefer what I assume are quieter rooms on the back side -- not that I noticed the street noise very much [and I'm a light sleeper]. Breakfast buffet was also ample -- but the coffee machine probably had not been cleaned for some time and was making very burnt coffee. Cappuccinos from the bar, which I ordered while sitting at the pool, were much better. The hotel advertises wifi on 2 floors, but it did not work there when I tried; and the cable connection in my room was not working. Another couple of guests were having similar problems. One of them was depending on it for business and was out of luck.

Staff were very friendly and helpful -- including the guys who kept advising me on how to get the computer connection to work. [No go -- it needed a technician.] I was surprised by how many people spent the day sitting at the pool, given the bay and its beach just across the road. There was also an indoor pool and a jacuzzi, and below that, a 'spa' where I did get a reasonable massage one day; they had other things on offer, too. The breakfast kitchen also prepares dinner, and the hotel offered a coupon for some % off (I can't recall the exact %). But it was just as easy to hop on the bus and have dinner at a nice restaurant in or near the old city. All in all, a good place to stay, tho I found it a bit overpriced for what it offered -- 4 star in appearance, but not quite making it.

Room Tip: Rooms on bay side had balconies with pleasant view, but were also over the restaurant, pool, and str...

We stayed here for four nights. At first I wasn't sure if the hotel really deserved the 4 stars, but after seeing other hotels in this area, I think it does. The location is great, just a few minutes from the Lapad beach and the bus to the Old Town stops in front of the hotel. The staff ws nice and the hotel is very clean and quiet. Breakfest is served on a lovelu terrace that has a nice view. I would probably stay here again.
