“Wow! This was a real surprise!”
Review of Kotor Old City

It takes two hours for your cruise ship to sail up the fjord from its entrance in the Adriatic Sea to the old city of Kotor. The journey is magnificent. And what a surprising place when you finally arrive at the quayside. The tiny, walled old city nestles at the base of the mountains and the walks up to the viewing areas and old monastery are well worth the hike. Or you you can simply find a table at one of the cafes and enjoy a glass of wine in the medieval surroundings. Try to make the trip up the fjord early in the morning and the return later in the day. A real gem until now undiscovered by us. We will be back.

Beautiful historical buildings within the old town walls with many shops, boutiques, galleries, cafés and restaurants to choose from. More stunning churches to admire. Take a tour if you can as there is a wealth of history to enjoy.

Kotor is small and spectacularly set in the Bay of Kotor and, of course, best explored on foot. Approaches to Kotor can be slow at any time of the year. Beautiful during the day and lively by night. A cruise ship visit with masses descending to this small town can turn Kotor in an unpleasant experience though. Head to the Tower of Kotor for the magnificent views of the town as well as the most southerly fjord in Europe.

planning a short walk just passing through the castle of St. John, but delighted by the wonderful old houses we stayed much longer. I liked the fact that the newly renovated houses remain in a convenient historic style. Narrow lanes and small squares are similar to most of the Dalmatian towns but yet so special.
