This hotel did not make a good first impression. I arrived late, hoping to take a quick shower and get some sleep. After I unpacked, I realized the bathroom was slowly flooding from a broken pipe behind the toilet. The front desk sent up a plumber who fiddled with the pipes for 20 minutes while I stood there in a bathrobe, unable to even change back into my clothes because there was a man in my room. Finally I called the desk and asked to move, and they sent up another guy, who began tossing my things into my suitcase. After getting them both to leave, I hit my head on a TV that was protruding from the wall over my suitcase and nearly blacked out. Finally I was able to drag my things down the hall to a different room. The hairdryer and the safe didn't work but at least it wasn't flooded. Music from a noisy wedding blared until 2 am. The bathroom was moldy and the desk is very badly set up; you have to crawl underneath it to charge your computer or phone. The next day a front desk clerk asked me how my stay was going, and when I admitted it didn't start out well, he said, "I know." It was more of a smirk than actual concern.
Having a quiet meeting in the lobby is a problem because of the loud music in the restaurant in the afternoon and evening. The breakfast, however, is first-rate and the friendly omelet guy is a big Al Pacino fan. The nice man who cleaned my room brought fresh flowers every day. You expect a certain amount of hassle in Karachi due to reasonable security concerns, but a lot of the problems inside this hotel could be fixed, like only having one very slow person at the front desk when our group tried to check out. The rooms could use an update, and the entire hotel needs a refresher course in the Marriott standard of service to business travelers.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

MY first time in Karachi and amidst all the media attention on security issues, I chose the Marriott Karachi.

It did not disappoint for a myriad of reasons:

1) Secure security - Dogs, Mirrors, guards with rifles greet you and your taxi. You couldnt see the entrance to the hotel until you pass the X-ray check 80m from the Lobby.

2) Hospitality - Extreme Pakistani warmth exhibited from lobby to room to restaurant to check out. What they said were right, and I am not even a preferred member of the Marriott. The prompt airport transfer to the hotel is a good to have, especially for the first timer in pakistan.

3) Location - As with the other better hotels, the location is conveniently near town and the airport. Minimal traffic congestion, even during weekdays.

4) Suite - beautifully decorated and maintained, although a tad dated and could use some reno.

Overall a very good stay. The Sheraton would be the other equivalent branded hotel that one could try, and its in the same vicinity (about 1km) and price range from the Marriott.

I learnt also that the locals recommend quite strongly the PC Hotel in the same neighbourhood. Less secure I was told but at more than half the price difference, worthy of a try if you are not on business?

Would be coming back to the Marriott for my next trip.

Marriott Karachi is a 5 start hotel But i would rate it a 7 stat hotel in 5 star hotel price.
I spent a week there and enjoyed every single moment. It is located in the center of city.
The staff is very friendly and rooms are clean. If you plan to visit Karachi then your destination should be Marriott Karachi.

Room Tip: choose Guest room, Executive Floor.

The location is convenient and furniture and carpets need upgrade. The food is good, High tea is excellent and so is breakfast. Very friendly staff. Security arrangements are very good. Has a nice small shopping arcade, with travel and business centers. A nice place to stay in a relativley quiet atmosphere.

On the plus side: Fast and free internet, decent size rooms, range of shops available inside the hotel, good security arrangements, three restaurants to choose from inside the hotel, decent gym which is open 24 hours. Free shuttle to airport, although the driver does insist on a tip. Massive wide flatscreen tv in the rooms, much bigger than in other hotels I have stayed in.

On the minus side: The odour in the elevators is not good. The lounge is fairly average. They don't bring you back your laundry unless you call and ask for it. I ordered a curry through room service and it was a bit too oily.
