Taking a first look to the hotel, it looks good. Pretty cheap, good rooms, great location, good bed etc... On the facility point of view, the only real thing is that the bathroom smells really bad.

Now, on the service, the desk man is ignorant, he knows nothing about his town. The bedrooms were not clean and I had to ask the desk man to give us fresh towels and water.

The most annoying thing was the fact that the hotel closed its doors at 10 PM leaving you outside like an idiot ringing to get in.

I would not recommend this place

The boss is horrible. You can feel it when he enters the room, all the staff have to change. They become tense and unfriendly, as if terrified of doing anything wrong.
Luckily the boss is barely ever there.
The room was okay, but the bathroom stank. Luckily we had air freshener to make showers bearable.

This place was totally awesome. Room was clean, bathroom flawless, price cheap, service was even better. We rented bicycles from there for the whole day and return without a problem but had to give up our passport to them. We were treated very well. I guess treat others the way you want to be treated.

Worst stay in Laos.

Managment was rude and unhelpful. When we had a problem, the manager got so angry with us that he started shaking. A fuss blew when we plugged in our computer (used the plug all over Asia without problem - its the right voltage). The manager accused us of opening the fuse box (which was screwed shut -- and no, we did not unscrew it, mess around with it and then call the manager), told us it was very expensive, and then threatened to make us pay for it because he thought it was our fault. He wanted to kick us out of the guesthouse at this point because he said we were so much trouble, even though we had paid.

Bathroom smelled awful. It was so bad we had to open the doors to the room to try and air it out. It got worse throughout our stay.

Front desk staff was also not helpful and couldn't explain their policies (like why you had to leave your key, but the hotel didn't have a safe).

On the plus side, the room was ok (if you could get over the smell, which I couldn't) and was in a good location. But please, don't stay here. Managment treats its guests horribly.

The front desk staff was very helpful and attentive. They attended to all our needs. -- The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had a good shower. -- It was easy to walk and bike to local attractions and restaurants. -- Free Wifi is available in the lobby with a coupon from the front desk..We were very satisfied with this accommodation. - My only "complaint" would be that the bikes could not be rented by the hour or half day. We had to rent for a full day.

( We arrived in Luang Prabang a day earlier than expected. We were not able to find a vacant room....even after searching for 3 hours. -- We had reservations at ThanaBoun for the following 3 nights so went there to ask for help. The desk manager was sympathetic. He called his brother. His brother arrived and took us to a friend with a small room available. We were very grateful to be off the street during the Chinese New Year celebration. When we checked into ThanaBoun the following day, we received the same level of great service.)

The room I ended up staying in was really nice. Double bed (comfy) with ensuite and spacious. Location very convenient. The shower curtain needs a change, the shower head could be higher up, and the floor was a bit dusty but otherwise good.

At the very beginning the owners didn't seem very friendly so I do agree with other reviewers, but I liked the room, and they seemed ok enough so I decided to stay. They were quite good after a while and helpful when there was internet connection problem.

If you want a good room, fuss-free and good location, this is a good place to stay. If you want great service and lots of smiles, then it's not.

Room Tip: I don't know what the other rooms are like, but my double room was upstairs and had a double (qu...

We found this place when wandering around. It was in lonely planet so thought it would be ok. It cost just over $15 a night and was better than another place that we paid the same amount for in luang prabang. Service was ok, we got free wifi coupons for the time we were there. We booked and prepaid a tuk tuk to airport which worked out fine.
Room was clean and fine. Only problem was a smell in the bathroom. As it seemed clean I assume it is from the sewer and comes up through the drain, as it seemed to get worse when we had a shower...
