SUMMARY: This was an additional highlight since it provides you with a wonderful opinion of the story of Lao. The grounds are gorgeous and possess the presidential palace, currently a museum, and another temple and the theatre. The museum is fairly big and contains several rooms with classic furniture. It's really well-maintained. The great thing about LP is that the majority of sites are inside walking distance. Do not miss the museum. It offers a good balance from all of the outdoor activities.

A lot to see in this compound. The decorations are fabulous and very intricate. The collection of royal cars is not what I was expecting.

We visited this place whilst on a tour of Cambodia and Laos.
I must say that we did have the advantage of a guide with us who explained all about the historical artefacts which are contained in the museum. This made sense of all of the contents
and it showed us clearly how the King figured in the history of Laos and its relationships with other countries.
The buildings, which form the Royal Museum, are very impressive, and I would say that they were marginally more photogenic than the contents of the Museum itself.
In fact, photography is not allowed once you enter and this seemed silly, as it is the photographs you take while touring a country which provide the memories of the places you have visited when you return home.
Overall, the Royal Museum is well worth a visit when in Laos as it explains a great deal of how the country has developed.

This was an interesting and picturesque area which was very popular. It is an open area with lots of walking in the mid-day sun though it does close mid day for a few hours.
