We spent one night at the Atlantis and another 5 star resort and the Atlantis is a wonder of its own, everything from the accomadation to the pools to the staff was rememberable and made our wedding anniversary somthing we definetly will remember for a long time. Absolutely Beautiful, the only thing that was dissappoining was that it was extremely expensive!!!

This Hotel was way too big and way too busy, it was a constant rat race with no personal service or attention. If you like big crowds and noise all of the time then this Hotel is for you however if you like peace and quiet and you want to enjoy a nice peaceful holiday dont stay here. The rooms were quite old and dated aswell and for the price I dont think it was very good value. I wont be staying here again I would rather somewhere smaller and more boutique. You just couldnt enjoy it without getting pushed and shoved all over the place and trying to dodge the hundreds of kids running riot. It was awful we couldnt wait to leave. We didnt want to spend any time in the hotel which was a shame.

Flight duration
If you are not aware the flight duration varies greatly with outward journey time of 6.5 hours and return flight being 7.5 hours

Transfer
Transfer from the airport to Palm hotel is approximately 30 minutes. Journey is pleasant with good introduction to the city of Dubai

Hotel
Check is speedy and luggage is efficiently managed with no need to handle or worry about it

Currency

Is UAE Dirhams make sure you have plenty of small notes for tipping before you go as small notes are hard to obtain..

Taxi's

Taxi fares are regulated and cheap 20 min taxi ride no more than £5. Beware some taxi drivers have difficulty understanding instructions so be prepared for minor detours.

Hotel

The Atlantis cannot be described as a hotel as it is a resort in its own right. The Hotel is vegas style and size. The hotel is spotlessly clean and architectually impressive. Upside Grand hotel offering fabulous facilities. Downside is that it is open to the public and is a stop on the city of Dubai bus tour so the lower lobby gets very busy with visitors to the hotel. this would not be a problem except that you have to negotiate the lower lobby area to get to most of the hotel's restaurants in the evening.

Room
We opted for an Atlantis room on the west side of the hotel with side sea view. This side gave you sun on your balcony most of the day. The room consisted of spacious bedroom, spacious bath room with interconnected double sliding door into your bedroom . There was a private balcony with two sun loungers.

Staff
Are mostly attentative and helpful without being pushy.

lunch
Excellent choice of alfresco eating at the pool bars or Nasimi outdoor restaurant with beach bar or use the hotel's restaurants. Food is above average lunch fare.

Evening dinner
Choose from half a dozen restaurant's in the hotel. Our favourite was Michael Rostang Brasserie which offered excellent standard food with outstanding sweet menu. Average price was £120 per night with wine.

Drinks
Beer £5 to £10 pounds, white wine £5 to £8 pounds (house standard) Red wine £8 to £12 pounds (supermarket standard). Be aware Champagne £25 to £30 pounds per glass ( Non vintage). Top tip if you enjoy your champagne either take it with you to Dubai or take the opportunity when you arrive in the airport to stock up in the duty free shop inside the airport as you will not be able to purchase alcohol independantly once outside the airport .

Weather
Our stay was from 24th December to 31st January the weather was sunny partially cloudy around 22 centigrade pleasant and .not unbearable..The hot sun is short from say 11.00am to 4.00pm. We were advised by several sources that we had dropped on exceptionally nice weather

Shopping
Nearest mall Emirates Mall just 20 minutes taxi ride. Shopping centre is international upmarket (Harvey Nichols)

Dubai
On the surface It would be an understatement to say that Dubai is a deeply impressive city. Clean modern and affulent. Wish we had more time to have explored.

Summary
Dubai is a great winter destination and the atlanti on the palm a fabulous resort

Wonderfully built and run hotel. Stayed in a Deluxe room, no kids this time, left them home alone. Good job too. Very expensive to wine and dine in this hotel. Go B&B as a minimum because Breakfast will set you back £35 a day, each as will lunch and that's buffet style.
The themed restaurants, Italian Japanese, Steak etc. are very good if a bit pricey
The pools and beach around the hotel are excellent

The waterpark is excellent and included for Atlantis guests. Ice cream is a fiver, chocolate sauce is extra! A great place to go but dont go on a budget, you'll regret it.
Check in and guest services are excellent. Public areas of the hotel can get busy at times especially weekends with visitors to the waterpark and aquarium etc.
At the moment the Monorail only goes to the base of the trunk of the Palm, so not much use, dosen,t connect to the main city yet. And if you take it, the end station is frequented by private Limo Taxis. They are metered but pricier than the average cab.
Depends what you want from a hotel. Bit of a theme park in my eye. I've been to nicer in the UAE
