Booked a reservation for my wife and I following review of their website where they state "...revitalise Chinese culinary tradition. Drawing from Cantonese, Sichuan, Shanghai and Beijing influences, it shifts the focus back to fresh ingredients and recipes passed down from generation to generation..."; this was certainly not our experience - the quality of food was equivelent to thta you reciev from an average takeaway, with the type of food being typical of a Western take on Chinese food - lots of clawing, sticky sauce that made everything taste the same. I regularly travel to China and many regions within and have never had food as bad as that in Maiden Shanghai. Note, the food isn't cheap (even for Dubai standards) and certainly overpriced - there are too many genuine Chinese restaurants in Dubai to have to suffer this over priced, average takeaway food.
As for ambiance, they state "Open 7 days a week, guests can enjoy food, drinks and music and experience Maiden Shanghai’s unique ambiance"; if by 'unique', they mean having to listen to the techno music being blasted from the beach/pool area (the restaurant overlooks the pool), then they are correct. However, having to nearly shout across to your partner to have a conversation is not my view of a restaurant setting to describe 'ambiance'.
On top the dismal restaurant experience, be prepared to wade through crowds of drunk, obnoxious and barely clad 20-something year olds (the crowds in the lobby were obviously drunk and in swim wear - shouting to friends arriving/departing).
All in all, we spent ~1hr at the restaurant, departing as quickly as we could and totally disgusted at all aspects of what this location is falsely claiming. In short, an expensive Ibiza with the same crass crowd
