This is definitely the way to travel through Dubai on a budget. You should buy a "card" that you can put money up and you travel for almost nothing.

There is one metro line, straight through the city, so it is easy to understand where to go, and it looks quite cool too.

If you are not so fond on lots of people, get a gold card, you have a "luxury" cabin then, where it won't be so busy.

We used the metro a lot on our 5 day trip to Dubai, especially since our hotel was a 3-minute walk from the Financial Centre Station.
It is a cheap, comfortable way to get through the city.
Some tips:
1. If you're planning to use the metro a lot, it makes sense to buy the nol card, and reload this as necessary. The nol can be used to pay for bus rides too.
2. Gentlemen: be a little careful. The first 11/2 coaches - with translucent doors, and pink signs are exclusively for women, and there's a lot of shock and disgust from the female passengers if you board one by mistake.

The trains are immaculate, all run every few minutes very cheap way to get around, You can get to the old town, all the malls and even out to Atlantis on the palm.and the airport.

I am living now in Abu Dhabi so I dont usually use the Metro train but whenever I want to tour Dubai this metro never fails me. Its always clean and it is always on time. Though as of the moment thre are some improvements and construction undergoing. I really think that the government handles it in a very convenient way that does not sacrifice the needs of the people for public transportation by providing free shuttles. Overall, I can say that Dubai Metro is 5 over 5 stars :)

For 22 AED you can get a full day pass for the metro .Though they have some construction work going on but they have arranged buses to ferry passengers to & from Batuta Mall to the metro station .
